Isnt fsr supposed to upscale from 720p to 1080p because every time i use fsr it looks like blurry garbage with ps2 sharpening black outline around everything

Will this stop it from dropping down the fps and lagging ?

Hey bud forgive the ignorance but regarding the process for FSR scaling, do i lower the resolution in the steam perfomance menu as well as in game? Or just one or the other? I dont think i have any games with built in FSR scaling but i would like to clearly understand the difference between what the settings in the steam menu do vs anything id find in-game yaknow? Regardless great video and thank you

Something to add: on certain games you'll also need to switch the window mode. I tried the steps you've outlined here on Ion Land's Cloudpunk, but FSR wouldn't active until I switched the window from Fullscreen to Borderless Window. Whereas in your video, I noticed it doesn't seem to matter which mode Elden Ring is in, it'll just work. Something to keep in mind if FidelityFX won't kick in.

does fsr make you lose performance. Fore example if i run the game at 500p without fsr will i get more fps?

This may seem obvious to most people, but to be clear, only use FSR if you aren't already getting a solid 40-60fps from your game in native 1280x800 on the Steam Deck. A native picture is going to be superior and artifact-free, whereas FSR can introduce some visual defects, some less noticeable than others.

I would be curious to know how much FSR affects battery life versus Native resolution though, and whether there are any major bumps or benefits there, even if you're getting an ideal framerate.

Oh so pretty much leave at linear if u plan to never change the resolution below 800. Or use only FSR if game offers in settings.

Elden Ring has almost no performance change with FSR because their performance bottlenecks are in the code not the hardware. You get like 3 or 4 FPS at best.

But in a lot of other games you can get a massive performance boost. In Path of Exile I get as much as 50% (60fps) increase, shooting from 120 to 180 fps. Not that it matters since the screen is only 60hz. But that's just an example of it working.

I actually never knew you had to lower the ingame resolution. That makes sense why I wasn't seeing any difference haha. Great tutorial, thanks a bunch!

Really is cpu limited
Even with fsr 540p the jump in fps is minimal from 800p, Zen2 likely be the culprit here
Here's to hoping zen4 rdna3 APU coming for steamdeck 2 be atleast similar to 12100f+6500XT🥂
