People new to Kodi get it and nothing works because all the devs are putting their stuff on it.
I have 4 Netflix style one click play apps, why would I pay?
Then there's Telegram for 4K.

I started without Real Debrid. I was determined to not spend any money (except for a VPN) but sure enough.... Buffering... Buffering... Buffering... My wife liked one series. But it would constantly buffer. Went to Reddit and they all kept saying Real Debrid. But I was sceptical. So I paid for the 15 days and that changed EVERYTHING! I now buy the 180 days and you can even save points to get a free month (1000 points) which I have claimed several times. It's also pretty cheap. Well worth the no buffering.
