Thank you for this wonderful Presentation of the life of Gertrude Bell, Desert Queen. Your writing and narration is exquisite i was spellbound and on the edge of my seat. I could have continued to. watch and listen long beyond the 3 hrs and 17 minutes ! In my opinion, it was not long enough. Not only have you managed to tell the story of this wonderful, brilliant and accomplished woman, but you presented a cohesive and easy to understand History of the Middle East, especially relevant to events in my lifetime and current events in the ME today. i did watch the movie starring Nicole Kidman, and found it very romantic. the movie, however, it did not fully explain why she was known as the Desert Queen. i am fillled with admiration for the way she knew what she wanted and used all of her resources , including her femininity to acheive her goals.and she used her talents and abilities to help others wherever life took her. ..Her adventures in the desert reminded me of the book and the movie ,”The Garden of Allah”, with the themes of tragic romance, and the spiritual mysticism of the desert wilderness.

❤❤❤ Excellent documentary and tribute to Gertrude Bell. I love the visual images, and appreciate the accuracy and clarity of the commentary. What an amazing reveal of women's rights, the benefits of wealth and position to women, contrasting with women's poverty and criminal enslavement. It says a lot about government prejudice, arrogance and incompetence. The UK really messed up the Middle East.

I have watched 20 minutes of this and there is not any mention of Gertrude Bell! If I wanted to learn the history of England, that would be well and good. But I am interested in learning about the woman of the desert. I am disappointed in this doc.

Extraordinary documentary on an extraordinary woman. Courage, selflessness, compassion, clear vision, political acumen, and much more. The narrator’ s praising conclusion brought tears to my eyes, especially in light of the present tragic Middle East situation.

You have done a wonderful job. Thank you for bringing this woman into our awareness. I hope this documentary can help bring her role into the foreground of history, especially in museums and institutions for public education.

Three hours is long, so here a suggestion.

Even if you edited off the last section about the war years..add an introduction....surely it could be circulated and viewed more easily by those trying to unravel the history of this area. Its so important now, as a teaching tool, with the Israeli Gazan war fraught with versions of how we got here, its so necessary. God bless you.

Khatoon خاتون was the proper way to address a lady from aristocracy or high society in the ottoman time, equal to "my lady" in England. I appreciate the high accuracy in this documentary, in contrast to many others I watched about this extraordinary woman.

Thank you for the information about GB's possible motive(s) for opposing women's right to vote being her experience working to help poor and powerless working class women. Long ago i used to believe that all female anti-suffrage advocates like her must be wealthy hypocrites jealously guarding their own privileges by denying other women a basic right. I thought they were willing tools of male supremacists. Now i think her opposition to women voting was because of the fact that in the heavily male-dominated institutions of education, religion, workplaces, and politics, most female voters would still be treated like tools, heavily pressured to vote as the male power structure and their own husbands, fathers, clergymen, etc , intended them to. Of course poorly educated male voters were already tools of the same system, but with females it would be worse. Others opposed to female suffrage were also not necessarily against women's rights, but believed there should be just one vote per household decided on together by the adults in it, so ideally family unity would be promoted.

Superb documentary. I have always been a great fan of TE Lawrence. I knew Lawrence had a friendship with her. To be fair I didn’t know much about her life. She was as you said a force of nature. One amazing lady of courage and fortitude, a trail blazer.

I was sad about the demise of her life. At only 58. Maybe if she had got married , to the love of her life, and had a family she would of lived a different life. Possibly a more fulfilled life? Who knows that wasn’t to be. Unique woman, for most men, probably intimidating with her intellect and knowledge of the Middle East.

This is certainly one of the best elaborated documentary I have the pleasure to see. Thank you very much for all your effort! It is still today very unkind to leave when the host prepares a meal honoring its guest... She may have been too spoiled to notice this, as the service personal was cooking and serving her at home. Nevertheless, her story is exactly what I needed. The historical background is more than interesting! It shows how long the opression and explotation of Palestine is really going on. So many treasures lost by now, which we can see here thanks to you!

I read the book on her that featured some of her writings/letters home etc as well as some pictures. I cant rember the name of it though. It was a decent book putting her life into a readable story. Some of the things she did was great. I do belive she was privileged though and sometimes wasn't very understanding, especially towards her fellow women.

Many current supposedly feminists have no idea about her and how she totally rocked the worlds she pass ed through. The other one, also contemporaneous, was Freya Stark, the first person to [properly map Iran and the first ever European to visit the Valley of the Assassins. 2 amazing women.
