My daughter and I were in Amsterdam a few years ago and it was weird walking in downtown Amsterdam and nobody was talking to each other. If they were with someone they would talk to that person but if they were alone they either had on headphones or just walked by without saying anything. That was so weird. I had to remember where I was and not to just start a conversation with someone or say hi. Also having to pay to use the bathroom, THAT was weird.

Yeah, the sarcasm thing, that’s only south and west. People in the north west are totally onboard with it. I’m from Detroit and you won’t find anything more sarcastic than someone from Detroit. Love your accent by the way.

All big cities have those scooters, I find them parked In front of my house sometimes 😂. And trust me the bathroom stalls also piss off us Americans. I hate it, but then again I’m a guy and we just piss standing next to random guys in urinals so eh.

I don't think it's sarcasm, because I'm American and I and a lot of my family and friends have a sarcastic sense of humor.

From my time living abroad in England, and films I've seen I think it's more that British humor can involve satire (making fun of society) and British humor often does that with topics many Americans consider taboo to joke about.

The idea that English people are the only people who understand sarcasm and irony is something the English have got to get over. It’s simply not true.

It’s New OR-linz. Not New ORleenz.

Lolol... I'm sure you may know this already.. but scooters are Not everywhere.. only in the bigger cities.. most Americans have never seen them unless they visit a big city... But few of us rural folks would consider trying to use them.

I live in rural Arizona. If we have homeless you'll never see them. Occasionally you'll see someone with a sign, saying they need gas money or asking for help. But you'll never see them sleeping on the streets. We have many public resources for poor, but no one is going to reward you for not keeping your sh*t together. For that you need to move to the big cities.

Americans hate our bathroom stalls, too. I dunt know WHO is responsible for this creepy design but he (it must be a he) needs to be hunted down and jailed for promoting public indecency.

As I understand it, California has a homelessness crisis because some kind of laws that were intended to make housing cheaper actually pushed landlords out of business. D: I don't know the full situation (I live in a VERY different part of the country), but it's not everywhere, and we Americans are horrified by it too!

Oh Lord have mercy !! I get so tired of foreigners complaining about the gaps in our public bathrooms. I have NEVER seen
anyone standing and trying to see me through the cracks !
Never !! Cracks keep riff-raff couples from planing their
redezvous in public bathrooms - yes America has weirdos !
I heard a long, long time ago about public bathrooms that didn't have cracks and what kind of low-lifes met there. So I'm proud of our cracks. If you wouldn't want to peek at people, why would you think anyone else would?

The majority of homelessness, street gangs, drug abuse, illegal arms distribution, theft, shootings, stabbings, murder, rape, prostitution, etc., in America, is found in ALL of the Blue States run by extremely corrupt liberal Marxist politicians, who mishandle and abuse EVERYTHING, especially, the hard-working taxpayer's money!! The majority of conservative-run states and cities are cleaner, have far less crime, and far less homelessness. This is a statistical FACT.

Please understand that us Americans do not understand public bathrooms either. I think it comes down to this material used is only made by a few companies and when the building was built they got just what was available to make the opening deadline, if it didn't fill all the gaps so be it.

Keep seeing the word “taboo” in these culture shock videos and comments. Taboo means absolutely forbidden - which is not he case. The words you need to use are impolite, sensitive, divisive and words like that. Taboo would mean something that could never be acceptable to discuss or do. That is simply not the case in most of the comments’ examples. Americans talk about everything among friends and often strangers. And sarcasm does not go over American heads. We have a different culture, it’s an incredibly big melting pot of a country with big cities and also massive rural areas and many have not been exposed to British humor. Sarcasm in the US is usually used when someone is upset or angry, but is also used for humor usually at someone’s expense. So coming out of the gate with sarcasm will require a moment with an American who doesn’t know you.

America certainly has homeless people and you will find them, but our biggest cities are not necessarily representative of the country as a whole in a great many ways, and the volume of homeless people you will find in many of the largest cities such as New York or Washington, Chicago or Los Angeles is an example of that.

There are 330 million Americans. If you visit our capital and our largest cities, you will have encountered a fraction of them. There are a lot of us that live away from major cities.

This country is huge. Those of us who have been born and raised here take that for granted and we do not realize how huge it is until we see some other places ourselves or hear the experience of others. I have lived in this country mind tire life and there are still large parts of it that I have never seen.
.
I hope you'll come back and visit some day. Come to the America that's out of the way where a great many of the tourists don't come. I think you find a little different experience, and a great many of us would love to meet you.

By the way, the electric scooters are actually a rare thing, you only find those in large cities, and most of us don't live in large cities.

God love you.
