Im thinking about getting one. The amount of emblems is a turn off but the unreliabity lights a spark of a fight. The want to tame the unreliability. But then I saw its ranked above a nissan maxima. Maybe Ill talk myself out of it.

I have owned a 1980s Spyder with plenum
I have also owned a karif also a shamal.
The most fun was the old Spyder as my dog and kids sat on the back bench and had so much fun in the sun. The karif was the quickest, yes quicker than the shamal from 0 to 60
If you serviced them regularly no problems
Most don't understand that they were high performance engines ( of the day ) and need looking after. As for the gear boxes ( early ones)
They were ruined by ham fisted clowns who could not understand a dog leg box.
Yes the drive train could get sloppy but it was due to the power sent to the rear axle , these could be easily shimed . What Clarkson and his clowns did to the car was so stupid and proves that not one of them have any understanding of mechanics or a classic icon. If you can't afford to maintain it don't buy it. Stick to a Japanese.

The Biturbo was a daily-driver car made by a company that had never made daily-driver cars before.

I've never heard of the Biturbo being called ugly only that it looked like a whole slew of other cars, almost all of them more popular and most far cheaper when new.

I’m one of those Oddballs i guess i like the styling of the BiTurbo, the Porsche 914s and 944s starting with the Bi turbos most of the inexpensive ones had or have had Turbo issues that made them sit for long periods and that is always bad on Vehicles i agree with you on the Bi Turbos kind of Classic80s styling i graduatedHigh School in 1982 so maybe that’s why i like that styling plus shortly after graduating those were the vehicles that were the most affordable i also had a thing for German Styling and the Bi Turbo resembled more of the 80s VW /Audi models of that time then more of a ItalainStyling yes Maserati was great at using their logo just look at a Chrysler TC ( the K Car with the M logos everywhere they could fit it

I hope one day I will get at least one! 😍🇮🇹👍💪🏻
I absolutely did not expect you to like this one, since of its uhm… reputation.
You always say bad things about Maseratis but I really like them.
Agreed on what you said tho.

I have a 89 Biturbo sedan, when it was running that thing moved with power. Enjoyed the drive and love the look. The seats are super plush and comfy. I had it stored for a year and now it doesn't start at all even with a new battery. I think the fuel pump maybe clogged sitting around. The steering fluid is also leaking, bought some parts from italy. Looking for a mechanic to work on this and can't find anyone, many mechanics said no. Dream of getting it back on the road again! Anyone have any mechanic suggestions? I am in DMV area.

I have an '87 Spyder 2.5 carb. Never had so much fun. Cheap to buy, expensive body parts, mechanicals are bullet proof. Maintenance essential. The handling (in the dry) the noise, the roof down - nothing beats it for a 36 yr old car. Love the looks. I'd recommend a later model with 2.8 injection engine but you can inject the 2.5 easily, the factory did make a few - they have the letter E on the rear. They rusted as they came off the production line but front wings are replaceable and can be bought new. Put on a sports exhaust and listen to the pop pop pop . Oh one more thing,,,,13 mpg from the V6

I owend a 1993 Maserati Racing (biturbo) Although they had dropped the biturbo name for that limited (200?) model run . An Italian market only 2ltr V6 4 valve 4 cam engine fuel injected 290bhp (dyno tested) 5 speed manual. A conventional gated Gatrag gearbox. Best looking version of this car by far. 50000 trouble free miles. ( If I ignore the headgasket failure @25k);) that gave me the opertunity to gasflow the Cosworth designed heads. That was almost 420bhp with modified turbos, exhaust, air intakes and watermeth injection. The car had electronically controlled Knoni dampers from the factory by then. The only other thing I changed was 17inch 3 piece one off rims, for more rubber to help the roadholding which was actually quite good. The cabin was a really nice place to be by then. A few less Maserati logos, Still that Analogue Clock admired by everyone.. The beautiful real wood and leather. The interior lasted really well in my ownership. It always felt like an occasion driving that car. I still look back fondly. Especially to the very first drive. I collected the car from Rome (a low milage used car in pristine condition) drove to the filling station and 21 hours and a few filling stations later I was back in Yorkshire in the center of the UK. A fantastic first drive. I did change the fantastic looking wooden steering wheel for a Momo leather one for less of the Italian stretched arm driving position 😅. Absolutely one of my favourite cars. Much much better looking in real life rather than photographs. Especially the Racing. Dam, I think im going to look for another one 😮😊

The lock under the steering wheel is because I think these originally weren’t sold with power locks and they lazily retrofit them so they didn’t have to do complicated wiring up to the gauges.

I wouldn't mind owning one, especially since I absolutely love the styling of it, but I would swap in a more reliable drivetrain though. (Think a slight restomod, newer engine, from something more reliable, etc)
