ArkOS on Anbernic RG353M. Batocera beater?

Been trying out both of these for the last week and so far I like batocera better. I’ve had some issues on ArkOS even with nes games, which is crazy. Like Super Mario 3, it loads just fine and plays, but on ArkOS it has a blue vertical bar on the left side of the screen that I just can’t seem to get rid of. No such thing on batocera.

The biggest issue that I can’t seem to fix no matter what I do, is that ArkOS freezes when you plug the 353m in to charge. It just stops working and you have to hard reset the device. It happens every time I try to plug the console in while playing. If you know of any fixes for that, please let me know. On batocera it’s fine. Everything has worked perfectly for me on batocera through ps1, and DS. Haven’t tried sega saturn though.

Is that use batocera ?

Bought this device, was a bit disappointed by the perfs on PS1 and DC (I didn't expect much regarding the DC).
I installed Arkos and I can run Colin McRae 2.0 in 480p (it used to lag severely during replays in 240p on Android and Linux)!!!
Went for Dreamcast as seeing the perf on PS1 blew me away, and it's running fine!
Then I discovered that I could play the Dreamcast in 240p!!! Started Omikron the Nomad Soul again, the long intro was unbearable before, it didn't skip a beat in 240p!!!!
I'm so blown away. I really don't mind playing in 240p, I'm used to it. Even the PS1 I play it in 240p despite it being able to run in 480p.

What a great device!!! I stayed away from devices like these up until now, they looked like toys and weren't that great (bad PS1 perf is a deal breaker for me), I just did a complete 180 thanks to this wonderful handheld.

If you're reading this and wondering if you should get one:
1/ you will need to tinker with it, nothing complicated, in 2 evenings you'll get everything up and running and be comfortable with the settings
2/ PS1 in 240p, perfection. In 480p, seems to work, expect a few frame drops but it seems pretty good from what I can see
3/ Dreamcast in 480p, you'll have to make concessions. If you don't mind 240p, you're in business!
4/ build quality, that thing is slick, sturdy, you literally can't bend or twist it (I tried ^-^)
5/ best joysticks on a handheld, better than nintendo switch

Drawbacks:
1/ apparently, battery life is around 5 to 6h (I don't mind but you might)
2/ making the list bigger to seem impartial
3/ a list with less than 3 items isn't a list, is it...

I'd literally have to make stuff up to find bad things to say about it. I might buy another one just to have a spare as I'm afraid that this will become a legendary device that you won't be able to get our hands on in a few years anymore and we'll all look back upon fondly...

4:3 aspect ratio, great screen, great viewing angle, no ghosting, 2 SD card slots, Dpad is the primary control, enough button for PS1 and Dreamcast, can play up to PS1 flawlessly and a ton of small quality of life features (wifi, USB-C, bluetooth, HDMI out etc)

And in case I wasn't clear: use Arkos. Don't even bother with the other OS.

How do I change home screen resolutions ? my fonts seems stretched.

What about Dreamcast?that's what I most wanted to know

Am I the only one that likes to adjust settings while in game with the function key? Leaving a game to change a keybind or graphic settings blows. The only thing I can’t figure out how to do on stock os is frame skip in some consoles to smooth the frame rate out

American laser games did the arcade mad dog mcree laserdisk based games along with a few lesser known ones.

I really do wish Anbernic would stop giving me reasons to buy yet another machine of theirs, only just mastered 2 different 350s, had to buy the original and the fakewood Gameboy format version which is sweet and the 351 😂.
Incidentally Steve, do you know where I might source a new screen crystal for my RG351M, stupidly, I bought the designated case for it, placed the USB charge cable in the netting storage in the lid, zipped it shut only to find the next day that the crystal was cracked. Apparently made of sugar glass or the case closes too tightly.
Anyone buying an Anbernic, please do not repeat my mistake, the screen crystal, certainly on the RG351M I bought around 12 months ago is very thin. Beautifully made machines nonetheless, slightly complicated to get running right but worth the time input.
Incidentally, I wonder if any of these emulation machine designers have considered an engineered rotating screen (Through 90°) for certain Arcade Format games. Shouldn't be a problem with ribbon cables able to flex so much.

Steve, have you heard about the new Test Drive Unlimited that's coming out next year? Are you planning on trying it?

It's quite funny that they have chosen ET to portray the Atari 2600 game section. :D

I am using arkos on my RG351P handheld and it seems pretty good from what I use it for. I have it updated and everything and it seems good. Have tried psp but eh its not worth it really. I usually stick with playing it on my tablet instead with a bluetooth controller if I want to play psp.

I really do question the choice of image they used on the front ends for these things. i.e. the Robocop figure for the Amstrad GX (okay sure, Robocop 2) but the Back To The Future (Telltale Games) Doc for the Spectrum? they'd have been better off showing a paint accident at B&Q to demonstrate the colour clash.
