True Xbox Live story from the 360 era:

I was playing the original Gears of War and joined a random game. I was randomly inserted onto the Locust side of a game halfway done. Immediately I heard the raging screams from someone on the Locust side ”NO ONE better touch that piece of sh*t! He’s mine!”

I didn’t know what was going on, but it was obvious I joined amidst some salt and beef. I came upon my first target, I had my shotgun out, turned a corner and one shotted my target. I then heard the thunderous roars from the same guy ”BOOT THAT MF!” I was then removed from the game.

I guess I had killed the one person he told everyone not to. I have no regrets to this day.

Of all the hostile 360 players I came across, for some reason, that’s one of my fav stories. I have a ton from Gears and Halo 3. Lol

Online discourse will never be as great as it was then. The insults were fun, and it prepared you for the real world. Someone insults me irl, and I'm just like "Was that it?". The only way that anyone should be banned in a video game is if they were hacking. Anything should go in voice chat, no matter how foul.

My first Gamertag on OG Xbox live was "Shitburger" before they made me change it during the Halo 2 years. Absolutely cool and I've had the same account ever since.
