As a Canadian I can't help but notice that many or all of these people are Caucasian. Is that one of the rules? Does a person have to be caucasian to be a member of this evangelical movement?

@Progressive_Canadian - 27.01.2024 00:15

The recent evangelical movement in the United States has undeniably played a significant role in shaping political landscapes. While it's important to recognize the diversity within this community, some evangelical fundamentalists have indeed been vocal in their influence on policies and political agendas. It's crucial to approach this influence with a nuanced perspective, acknowledging that interpretations of religious texts can vary widely. Critics argue that certain evangelical leaders may selectively emphasize aspects of the Bible that align with their political objectives, potentially leading to a narrow and exclusionary approach to governance. The historical context where political figures like King James may have influenced translations, adds another layer to the complexity of understanding how religious texts are interpreted and applied in contemporary politics. As with any religious or ideological movement, it's essential to engage in open dialogue and promote a diverse range of perspectives to foster a more inclusive and informed political discourse. Balancing religious freedom with the principles of a pluralistic society remains a challenge, and the impact of the evangelical movement on politics continues to be a subject of debate and analysis.

The church can be ‘spiritual’ or it can be political. It can’t be both. The idea that conservatism is part of Christian faith is emblematic. Jesus said pay your taxes, care for the marginalized, care for the refugee. He didn’t mention abortion or homosexuality, ever. The church today puts words in the mouth of Jesus. And they ignore what he said, such as feed the hungry, visit the prisoner, care for the sick. The Christian nationalists line up behind characters like trump who assault women and brag, insult veterans, mock the handicapped, threaten gays. They have gained political power but forfeited their right to give spiritual guidance. I did not let the church door hit me in the a$$ as I left.

As a European, from Portugal, I pride myself in the ecumenical celebrations we have yearly with bishops, rabis, imans and other religious leaders, in a display of tolerance and acceptance in the community and the wider country.
This is something which is not flashy or loud, but it really makes a difference. Looking at the US from Europe, this is really, really strange. And by the way, I was a senior high school foreign exchange student so I really hope the US overcomes these divisions.

I read somewhere (it was either Kimberley Blaker's The Fundamentals of Extremism:The Christian Right in America or Richard Dawkins' The God Delusion) about how American conservative evangelical christians put their trust in Ronald Reagan during his run for the presidency because of his policy platform which would include biblically-based legislation, but were disappointed & angry when he didn't. What did they expect from a divorced, nonchurch-going, B-grade actor? Then, a leader from one of the many far right-wing, ultra-conservative think tanks told them that, if you want a president who espouses your values, start at the grass roots level i.e. school boards, local government, state elections.

I'm in California. Most of my teachers were Jewish, and they taught me to respect other people's beliefs. "Christian" right wingers won't have that. They claim God was expelled from school because they want to coerce young people to obey their beliefs. But saving faith in God is voluntary, by faith, not by coercion. It is the "Christian" nationalists who are expelling God from public schools.

Church plus State equals Antichrist. This was predicted by the Bible, and God is not unprepared for it.

I'm a Christian. "Patriot Church" is a contradiction in terms. I absolutely denounce and oppose the new alphabet soup nonsense, perversion, degeneracy, and the rabid anti-Christian, anti-religious sentiments on the so-called Left, which throws around terms like "bigot" and "racist" without any apparent comprehension of the meaning of those words. But these evangelicals are also profoundly confused and corrupted.

The lunatic fringes have taken over both political parties. It's increasingly hard to find a "lesser evil" in politics, which makes me want to stop voting altogether. My fear is that these false Christian Republicans will destroy democracy and America entirely through Project 2025 if people stop voting, though. We are truly between the devil and the deep blue sea now. The new Democratic party is essentially offering up a bacchanalian glorification of Satan and Satanism (which they now apparently believe is the only religion they can approve--seriously: just look up the news about the satanic shrines at capitol buildings if you think I'm exaggerating), along with some economic relief and medical sanity thrown in to...uh, "sweeten the pot," I guess. 😵‍💫🧐Meanwhile, the MAGA party can only offer up Trump, who I'm 99% sure is the Antichrist, and his proudly vicious hordes of Little Eichmanns, while giving lip service to some basic truths that I'm not sure they really care about, with a secure(r) southern border thrown in like a dangling carrot without any promises.

Given the choice between Satan and the Antichrist, is there really any right choice? I feel that decent Americans have been checkmated.

These people don't follow the teachings of Christ in any meaningful way.
They worship their own ego, lust for power, and bigoted inclinations, while bastardizing religion to coddle their own narcissism and excuse their hate. They scorn real Christians and they scorn Americans with morals, humility, and empathy.
