I wish there was a real scientific study on how many of these influencers have some sort of mental illness. I’m at the chameleon section and I was thinking it’s not very hard for a person with specific mental illnesses/personality disorders to switch up their entire life, opinions, and personality to match whatever is trending at the time. If you don’t have a solid sense of self already established, it’s easy to adapt to whatever makes you money and brings attention.

But Shane didn’t change his personality ever. He just changed his likes/hobbies/interests. I used to love watching makeup videos even though I hated doing makeup or wearing makeup. I then realized what a waste that was and I started watching lifestyle videos; then I started watching true crime videos, etc. that doesn’t change my personality. I have been the same personality-wise since forever ago but my interests have changed. I don’t just mean this with regards to Shane though, but all those chameleons you talked about.

Everything else you said was pretty accurate though in my opinion.

one of the channels i def ages out of was dan and phil
they appealed to my middle school emo soul and they had a british accent, what wasnt to like? but as I got older they stayed the same, and they phased out.
(im still kinda emo but that kind of millenial self depricating kinda awkward joke just isnt appealing compared to gen z zoomer humor that youd get in a tiktok for example)

People change and aren't interested in the same things over time. I used to be obsessed with makeup videos and now I NEVER watch them anymore. I'm more in to crime videos

This is the third video I have watched from you & I’m glad I found you!! Keep on it girl! I relate to how passionate you are in situations where others would think “wow that’s a bit much” (especially relating to the Labrant family video you made bc I am NOT watching their bullshit)

You’re someone I love to see in the spotlight & I want your channel to grow & grow ❤️

You’re so right. It even happens to televisions shows that were super popular and then get canceled after a few seasons.

Markiplier is kinda cool for the 'Age Out' category. I watched him in middle school avidly, and about sophomore year of high school I kinda stopped watching him. But I came back to his channel over quarantine and picked right back up. He aged with his audience and he still makes the same content, but it had a much calmer and more mature vibe to it. I still watch him at age 21 and find a lot of enjoyment!

This topic is good cause this happens in all forms of entertainment. You might be the biggest band in the music industry getting a ton of awards and what not then when the trends in music change, your career in that field changes. You tube is no different.

The thing is when you decide to be more intimate and open etc., you open yourself up to terrible social media crap. I think the best scenario is to keep yourself at a remove and not depend on your personal life/life vlogs for your popularity. Seems like everyone who does that winds up crashing and burning with terrible mental health problems. People like Red Letter Media keep to a theme and do such a great job with their content that they don't need to open up their lives to random strangers.

I started watching Joey in the past year because he started doing a lot of fostering dog videos and going away from what he used to do and I think he has been able to evolve

With so many people on the platform and with your own life changes, it's easy to just forget about people you used to watch every day. I don't think there's one channel that I've CONSISTENTLY watched for years at a time. I always either stop watching and/or rediscover them years later.

I’m sorry but in any other job field being adaptable and flexible to the change of society and ideals of thinking would be an absolute asset, so maybe being a chameleon is not necessarily a bad thing. I’m not saying Shane Dawson is the best role model but being able to adapt to a changing environment is not something I think we should look down on

Bunny fell off because of her Starbucks Karen moment. Also, she kept faking this "I'm poor too and so relatable" persona when she was in fact filthy rich the whole time. Shane's series on her really shed a light on who she is. All of these things made her fall off. Also, she didn't take people's advice and kept doing her old formula and the hypocrisy didn't help her.

Theres something you dint mention about Bunny, and its the Starbucks "drama". After she made a scene about not getting a free drink many viewers started unsubscribing, it showed a different attitude from her and mix that with her repetitive content it just help her loose her audience. I also remember that she got a lot of crititsm after the documentary with shane cause she dint try to change her content.

With the kind of money y’all bigger creators make they’re set to retire. Meaning they can fully do whatever they want with a safety net and not worry about income anymore and do whatever makes them happy. It’s all good and lucky them to someday not have to stress
