My concern shopping for these though is how the recent LG TVs lose their peak brightness in game mode. Add that to potential vertical banding, higher input lag, worse screen uniformity, or worse viewing angles and the QD OLED becomes more tempting. I don’t have enough experience to day that a standard OLED is a good experience in a brighter room. Feels like a gamble any way you go.

No issues for me in my bright living room with my 65 inch S95C.

Completely agreed. It's funny to me how many people want to downplay this issue and yet these are the same people who say LCDs suck because of their black levels. Perceived black is the most important part and with QD OLED it's not there. Just like it wasn't there with plasma. Most people do not watch TV in a cave and WILL experience raised blacks. I've had people tell me they only see it when TV is turned off. As if the screen magically becomes inky black after turning on!

Hey there, i totally agree with you. i was in the the same spot exactly. Me was thanking, wait a minute, do i see dark grey?? i even covered the tv for the store light with my hand, i thought i imagined that. But yes, it doesn't achieve true black. Back of my head was any thing that say oled is instantly true black. That's why im here in your channel. investigate the matter.

I purchased the LG G3 and was noy happy with the panel uniformity at all. I returned it for the S95C and couldn't be happier. You get perfect blacks even in a bright room so I dont know what this guy is talking about.

I own an Alienware qd oled, and it's never bothered me really. I understand that it annoys some people more than others, but at least the blacks raise consistently across the entire screen so uniformity isn't affected.

Everybody knows that a an LCD looks brighter on luminous room than OLED also the image quality needs to be calibrated, have to turn off the the auto brightnes mode and another things to get the perfect if you were a samsung user for years you should know that 😅📺🔥

Only when it is off, in a super bright room, the screen appears this way, when it is turned on in a bright room, blacks are normal. Its the same for my A95K, and S95B, this is a non issue...

Blacks will never be 'perfect' in a room with ambient light. Your eyes don't see black as 'black' when it's daytime anyway.

Light for sure needs to be controlled. Those stores have such an artificial lighting that it’s crazy, in home, with ANY OLED, there should be some consideration to the lighting in the room, especially if it’s behind the viewer (reflection) and directed lighting (raised blacks).

We will cover this more, together my brother.

I know you said that you don't have a console, but I'm interested to hear your take on Dolby Vision gaming for Xbox Series X. How well do you think it compares to HDR on a pc? Dolby Vision for games is supposed to be much better, but is it? It would have been nice to see a side-by-side comparison.

The color pops on QD-OLEDs that is what its supposed to do, so they won there. The issue is that QD-OLEDs suffer from heavy burn in, because the screen is too bright, taking the QD technology.

If your looking to get a new TV, look at the G3. That TV is end of discussion with color, brights, blacks everything. The C3 is probably very close, if you have a newer panel C2, then the C3 is not really an upgrade.

Thank u for another amazing video! I dont know about tvs if im R or W, but I swear bro this is maybe the first reason i prefer G3 over s95c! & nothing from s95c, And in some comparison its freaking obvious!, (i thought first its just because of camera ‘its maybe make it worser!) and u here talking about it, although i pretty much like the s95c! And its vibrancy and great looking tv, but in that matter! Does the lg g3 had the same problem idk contrast or black & how the image overall look, does the g3 look like a real oled! Lol from someone never owned one! , like if i tell u g2 77 or g3 77, which one do u prefer for me? In a shiny living room, that can be turned dark - sports & movies & tv shows. Mill Gracias!!

Dude, u are making the problem where it is not. OLEDs are not just about perfect blacks but mostly about perfect contrast - the way how OLEDs can display highlights - extremly bright pixels next to completely black pixels - is unmatchable by LCDs. And if you are watching tv in very bright room, dont bother with raised blacks and avoid OLEDs completely as they are simply not bright enough. I own s95b for almost a year and did not noticed raised blacks single time.

I always use my tv in a dark room so for me it doesn’t matter. If you want to have the best picture quality you have to make sacrifices. Starting from burn in and ending with this raised black due to no polarizer. The LG C3 is still an option, but now that I know that the polarizer is killing half the brightness I will never buy a tv with one. 1400-1500 nit oled is almost endgame HDR especially since you can use BFI and still get crazy brightness, not to mention’s 91% rec 2020. When they implement blue phosphorus oled in 2024 is when I’m planning on upgrading, until then B1 it is

I don't care that much about perfekt blacks but give me something that has better motion clearity than my CX or even than my CRT. Or at least same motion clearity but significantly brighter.
I know there is an blurbusters 2.0 aproved LCD, but the colours an viewing angles are far from perfect. If you gave me a 240+ Hz OLED with BFI that could at least double the motion clearity, I would really consider jumping from console to PC gaming...

I own a S95C and I think the black scenes looking gray is actually the display reacting to light. I know this because, I also noticed that the black scenes kinda looked gray when I was watching the tv with lights on, but then when I turned the tv off, the display still looked gray and then I realized that the display itself looks gray when it's under light. I think it happens to almost every displays. my iPad does it and my iPhone also does it. I'm pretty sure it also happens to LG OLEDs as well. I think this is a non issue if you don't watch tv up close and especially zero issue when watching with lights off.

This is why i returned the Alienware 34 inch qd oled monitor with Samsung panel. Sure ,it was brighter than the C2, but the grey/purple unlit pixels were reflecting ambient light too much and it looked just like an IPS.

To answer your question: no! There are 0 issues in a dark room without any antiglare whatsoever. All that the antiglare layer does is protect against outside light coming in. The presence or lack of it has 0 impact at all on dark room picture quality, except that some light is lost when you have an antiglare layer. I for one would have 0 problem with the layers(or lack of layers) the way they are on qdoled. You should never have any direct light on your screen anyways.

I have compared the lg oled , qd oled, and top end lcd, i will tell you for sure qd oled is terrible in a bright room its not just raised blacks but also the pink/purple tint ruins skintones and colours accuracy. Also that extra brightness that reviewers talk about is actually overblown, the difference looks more dramatic on camera than it does in real life. W-oled is more than bright enough even in a bright room, just turn on ai brightness control or ambient light sensor on sony to raise shadow detail and it looks fantastic. Im really disappointed that the lg g3 has this raised black issue as well and your the only one talking about it everyone else just glosses over it.

My panasonic VT30 plasma also has a grey/green panel, so blacks are not as good in a well-lit room. For me personally it never was a problem, even in dayilight. Unfortunately, each TV technology has its own shortcomings, and you need to choose the right one based on your own preferences. Personally I still prefer CRT technology, because I have never seen so beautiful bright colors on OLEDs and plasma TVs.
