This is actually so so much worse than just being drowned. They keelhauled him. Dragging him along the keel of the boat.

Essentially your body is raked across barnacles etc that cut into your flesh and rip it apart.

Bjorn punished his Uncle Rollo, a man of wealth and fame, the Duke of Normandy, for his betrayal. Which shows that Bjorn holds all people accountable. He also shows mercy and understanding, in that if Bjorn kills Rollo, Bjorn basically guarantees massive amiunt of trouble on the return voyage, Bjorn would have also condemned all of Norway intoo a war that wasnt necessary

The longer Rollo lives, the more power he gains. If they killed them right there and then, they could have held off the France invasion and wouldnt have lost their 1st battle for Kattegat
