Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 Review: The Next Level In Graphics Performance

The 4090 is a phenomenal GPU. Literally doubles the performance of the 3090 in most ray traced games, and that's referring to raw performance. No upscaling or frame gen.

I'm 40 years old and have never once gotten a truly bleeding edge computer, but I've finally taken the plunge (maybe this is a gamer's mid-life crysis?). I'm picking up this paired with a i9-13900KF and pretty much anything else money can buy. I might be much poorer afterwards, but I haven't upgraded my computer in 6 years and (as a life-long gamer) it is time!

I actually will be running this rig with Corsair's 1440 OLED. I'd rather push my frames and max out RT than run 4k.

My computer will be here in a week.

$1600 is the price of an entire Pcpartpicker build with AMD 7900 XT. I see a Microcenter deal for a 6950 XT prebuilt for $1400, too. This $1600 CARD is indeed for early adopters.

The most common resolution in steam June 2022 was 1080p

2nd is 1440p
3rd is 1366x768p

No real mention of the image quality issues with frame generation? Also, framerates in dlss performance mode isn't very impressive when you consider the image quality is quite bad compared to quality dlss.

Kinda crazy to imagine that all the performance from todays high end components will one day eventually go down to consoles.

So with ray tracing in 4k it struggles to get to 60fps... tell me again why you don't recommend it for 1440p?
I want ray tracing (or really high graphical settings) with high FPS... this combination is only possible at 1440p.

Nice looking to the future. My new pc that I just got this week was $1,200 so the fact that the card alone here cost $400 more than my entire PC is hilarious but if you want the best stuff now that's the price I guess. I imagine the next PC I get in 5 to 10 years will have a card with power similar to this one.

We have good hardware. Now we need better games. Stalker level sort of games. Less cookie cutter boring games

I feel like AMD is about to win this next round with their next cards having 2x performance games compared to the previous generation and over 2x in terms of ray tracing. I'm sure 4090 will still win the ray tracing battle but at 2x the RDNA3 cards should be a little better than the nivida 3000 series which should be plenty considering how little ray tracing effects are actually used in games beyond simple implementations and being able to out perform the 4090 in raster performance and more than likely be priced less will be enough to make it the top choice for people who want to upgrade the next round.

I got mine and the performance is insane. I'm so frequently CPU limited now even at 5120x1440. I can make pretty good use of my 240Hz refresh rate even in a lot of AAA games. Waiting for my 13900K to ship now to try and alleviate the cpu bottlenecking.

I really hope Nintendo uses ada lovelace's technology in the next Switch console. DLSS 3.0 in particular would do wonders for a hybrid console.

To me the core message is, the software just fundamentally hasn't caught up with the increase in GPU power this card offers. Like software is nowhere near truly targetting this thing. I would much prefer something hitting a stable 60fps on this with actual current gen visuals, than the mostly cross gen stuff we are seeing hitting 120fps. In general, I don't have an interest in 120fps, etc. I am still on a 2070 super granted, but when I use DLSS and tweak the settings, I still feel I can pretty much play anything pretty well. For the time, being I think stuff like the 4090 provide diminishing returns for most, until software that begins to target current gen in a fundamental way turns up. Even then, I suppose when you factor in the price, it is pretty unappealing even with the impressive peformance.

That’s it I am a PC gamer now. Just need to save up 😅

Funny things is games that nvidia has to prove the rendering powers are ps exclusive games🤣🤣🤣🤣 because you go and buy 2000 $ graphic card and there are no games that support it and the visual differences are minimal and then you have to sell it at 400$ just because Nvidia said so.
