Pretty good briefing of what should be considered the start of WW2.There have been declassified documents and a published Diary of Chaing Kai-shek that will change the narrative of some of the history of this. Chaing always knew he'd have to fight Japan but wanted to have the military strength before commuting to it. His purging of Communists though was ongoing right up until just before the Battle of Shanghai which The Nationalists initiated incidentally. To anyone wanting to immerse themself into this era and region of history, Richard Frank would be a good recommendation with some pretty comprehensive research to offer.
The breaching of levees on the Yellow River just might of been Chaing Kai shek's worst decision of the conflict as the repercussions played out . . . arguably.

the battle of nankou 1937 was fought very well by tang enbo's men especially Luo Fanggui's 1000 man 529th regiment which held off attacks of the elite 10000 man kwantung army 11th mixed brigade on nankou long enough for reinforcements to come and drag the japanese down. in total the nankou campaign had 16,000 chinese casualties and 15,000 japanese casualties in 18 days

Chiang was absolutely correct on communism. Mao was the second evil man in long Chinese history only after Qin Shi Huang.

I really have to admire Chiang and the Kuomintang. Despite losing battle after battle to the technologically superior Japanese Empire, the Kuomintang adamantly refused to even consider surrender to the Japanese.

The Kuomintang dug their heels in and matched the Japanese in ruthless defiance. Even if it meant destroying their dykes and flooding the countryside to slow the Japanese down, if it meant sacrificing whole cities to the Japanese invaders just to buy time for their own forces to regroup, even if it meant strapping bombs to their own soldiers and turning them into anti-tank rockets, the Chinese did it.

The irony is that modern China is only able to become a great power because the Kuomintang paid blood for China's future.

My father had to stop his study at Beijing University as a freshman and joint the army in the Summer 1937. He lost his parents and fiancee during this 8-year war. By 1945 when the war finally ended, he had nothing left except never ending sorrow and tiredness.

An often overlooked fact is that Japan considered attacking the Soviet Union during Barbarossa. One main reason it decided to move south was due to the large number of troops tied up in China. In hindsight, that could have been one of the most critical moves for the Axis to win the war.

China isn’t just a land of resources and land, it’s also the home of the Chinese people, who has the right to take it from them? And it’s also European colonialism not expansionism, stop trying to whitewash European imperialism.

War with China in the Pacific is definitely inevitable. Ji Jing Ping and the CCP...has been leading the world once again into War....
The Ukraine crisis with Russia is a mere squabble compared to what is about to kick off..... South East Asia and the Pacific Island nations will easily be overcome. Australia...and in turn New Zealand will have no chance to put up any meaningful resistance.....The US too...will suffer......

Chiang knew in his heart that the Japanese were the real threat to control the lifeblood of the Chinese nation. But he could not show his anti-japanese stance as ordinary people did, and he had to secretly prepare for it.
Chiang Kai-shek's diaries
1:“借剿共以收复西南”
“In the name of eliminating the Communist Party, to recover the southwest region”
2:“剿共为掩护,抗日之原则”
The elimination of the Communist Party is a superficial cover, and the pursuit of resistance against Japan is the real principle

According to Chiang's diary, he deliberately set free the remnants of the Red Army for the Long March, thus infiltrating his central forces into the southwest as a base for future resistance against Japan. As a matter of fact, Chiang Kai-shek, who had an army of one million at that time, did not pay any attention to the ten to twenty thousand remaining Communists. What he really cared about was how to draw in the warlord forces for anti-japanese preparations. But the young Zhang xueliang, influenced by communist propaganda against Japan, rashly launched the Xi 'an Incident and upset Chiang's plans. Eventually Chiang kai-shek was forced to join forces with the Communists against Japan, and what remained of the Communist party survived. After the outbreak of the Sino-Japanese War, the Red Army gradually grew stronger, which made Chiang Kai-shek take the communist threat seriously.

One of my favorite things I’ve read was that when the Japanese admirals and generals were arguing for a war with the U.S. the Emperor said that they were still at war with China. Which a general responded that China was a vast country, which the Emperor then brought up the point that the pacific is more vast than China so if they can’t win in China what makes them think they’d win in the pacific. Of course he was eventually convinced, but I thought it was funny at the poor choice of words and logic used by the general.

China had everything but Britain had nothing so the govt of Britain peddled OPIUM to the Chinese People to tuen them into drug addicts. Japan wanted to outdo the West so its worst became the best for China. Good riddance to CKS regime it was the cancer led by a sickly coward who fled to Taiwan , lived an extravagant lifestyle & would have sold out China & he did. He paid mercenaries The Flying Tigers recruited from USA stayed only9 months then was disbanded by Hap Arnold, USA was only in the war for USA PRIMACY alone certainly not for China & NO FRIEND !
