Russia ie: Stalin, murdered 20 million of there own people and purged there Army during there civil war between the Reds and the whites. After that there army had to be updated and retrained. Knowing this I have to ask why America backed Russia during ww2 with lend lease and intelligence.
America should have fought with Hitler against communist Russia .
After the war was won Russia defaulted on the agreement and very little was paid back. Weve been fighting Russia ever since. Korea, Viet Nam, ect.
Thats why the U.S. is backing Ukraine in there war now.

From the tactical perspective, this was excellent. As for the ending...I'm a bit short on sympathy. The reputation of the Waffen SS was one they earned and is well documented. I suspect that some details (especially on the Eastern front) were conveniently...left out.

The narrator mispronounced so many names, it baffled me a bit, trying to look on a map as to where what was, some of it seemed to somewhat directionally challenged too. A very large part of the story kinda needs to be taken with a large grain of salt. I do believe there is some stuff tossed in there that was not part of the diary.

Remember who the SS were, please. These were among the worst of the worst, and there is a reason that during a large part of 1944 there were few to no SS prisoners taken by US troops. First some mid-rang officer gave on order to cover the grunts in the filed who were killing SS in retaliation, then orders came down to stop it because of the need for intelligence data on which SS units were where, etc.

I read about him years ago, that while on Greece, he and his men were pinned down by heavy fire behind some rocks. He ordered the men to get up and charge, but they didn't move because of fear. He then pulled the pin on a hand grenade and rolled it to behind the last man. They got up and charged immediately!
