Howard's med school had and has students of all colors. Who ever wrote that was just trying to push the ridiculous reverse discrimination issue.

The biggest part of the joke is nothing stops the destructive activity of racist policies in American institutions. I notice that we still have not outlawed hate groups like Kkk while we claim to be none racial.

The Jews didn't get reparations and restitution because of their race/ethnicity but due to harm. Hannah-Jones is leading Native Black Americans into a burning building with reparations inflamed. Don't listen to the woman! She was paid by elites to create a false narrative that (1) blacks and Africans' history started in 1619 as slaves (2) there were no Amerindian slaves (3) every skinned/ non-European is African. Slavery in America was not exclusively for African people even white Europeans were enslaved too, however dark-skin was the preference for labor

Inherent in racism is a power imbalance, discrimination can't happen meaningfully if one group has no power to enforce their sense of superiority onto another group, so "reverse racism" is a ridiculous concept. As a white person, no matter what black people might think of my racial group, it has no bearing on my chances of being accepted to college or my access to a home loan or my ability to rent an apartment or get a job. If I am treated differently, it's not because of my race, but because of my gender or socioeconomic status or some other factor. For most of American history, America has been about "affirmative action" and racial privilege for white people, and during that time it was white people who gathered up most of the wealth, especially the capital. The idea of giving black people civil rights afterwards and forbidding race-based considerations in how to handle the distribution of wealth moving forward is just saying to them "here, you can have these scraps that we don't really want". In a capitalist system it's the ownership of capital that brings wealth and black people were systematically denied access to ownership of capital. To use the race analogy, it's not that now post civil rights reform we are lining everyone up on the starting line together to have the same chances in the race, it's like letting black people start when the white people are already nearly done.

Without reparations to Black citizens the US government is just a pro European descendant mafia. The preamble to the US Constitution lists the goals of the newly created government to perform and it failed. So those it failed horribly are owed reparations for it's failures. Blacks that were slaves didn't even get the opportunity to say if they wanted to be citizens or not. The US government forced itself on them and failed to economically and politically protect them.

If I understand what she's talking about (and I probably don't,) with "lineage based affirmative action," I disagree. Basing affirmative action solely on those descended from slaves, totally ignores the systemic racism built into the country--which affects ALL black/brown people. If we really want that color-blind society, we've got to insure everyone has equal opportunity for success.

I myself grew up 'po white trash.' I had a lot of struggles to get out of poverty--but I never had the added anchor of my race, working against me. Until a great majority of those holding the keys to power, wealth, education, success, and inclusion are able to interact with all cultures, genders, races, and lifestyles, with open-minded equality, then affirmative action is needed. It's especially necessary when there are obvious visual cues to someone's differences--as there are with black/brown people.

If we'd achieved our dream of a color-blind country, we'd have people in the higher echelons of government, industry, and wealth, matching the demographics of the country as a whole. We obviously don't. If that's not the effects of systemic racism, (sexism, and bigotry,) then they're expecting us to believe these people are not smart enough, disciplined enough, hard-working enough, or capable enough to reach the top tiers of success. As a woman, that insults me. I can only imagine how it feels to people of color, who have dealt with this for generations.

Black Americans had to create their own colleges and universities because checks notes whyte Americans denied them access in all whyte spaces due to their racism. Now the descendants of these same whyte racist Americans want to check notes again police how a Black created university helps educate their own people since the historical whyte institutions denied them access from the start. How does that work? What an effing farce.

The " conservative group" has a right to say what they would hope or wish for. This is not newsworthy and a poor substitute for professional journalism combined with commentary from public intellectuals. If this is the "best"MSNBC has to offer, MSM is clearly nearly dead, having lost surrendered its power to educate, inspire, and inform. 😢

So that it is clear, lineage is the correct and proper approach to making the distinction between a intended dilution of American-ADOS against a lesser amount of Caribbean colonizers from France, England, Belgium and the like who's children emigrate into the US as favored Blacks over the citizens already here(the lineage) fraught with the English names of slave masters of the USA. This is not exact due to the expanse of the sale of slaves among the original colonies and those intertwined with island plantations, it is true that lineage is as important to allow reparations among other european slave trade country's.

Ms Hannah-Jones has nothing to offer the American working people, only America's wealthy elite to whom she belongs. Unlike King, W.E.B. Du Bois, C.L.R. James, Hubert Harrison, Claude McKay and so many more, and unlike even radical black nationalist figures such as Malcolm X, Hannah-Jones offers not a peep of criticism of American imperialism, which is currently responsible for the genocide being carried out against the Palestinian people.

It is a question of justice. The Rule of Law is the apparent highest law of any sovereignty. Under its cover, "If u build it they will come" becomes a rule of thumb to equate imbalances in society. However, the Rule of Law in most countries defies justice to keep the incumbent in power. As such, the Rule of Law shows it is not the highest power in the land. Race is.
