Internet History: Revisiting Tanacon *3 years later*

Absolutely crazy that a con, A CON, had almost nothing to do that was properly sheduled.

I have gone to a good amount of anime, comic, sewing and even furry conventions and none have never not been packed in terms of the shedule. Usually you can't even pick what to attend as 3 or more events are happening at the same exact timeframe.

I know a girl who went to this mess for Shane. Girly saw the line and turned right tf back around and left for vidcon instead.

It is really a miracle no one died there.

Honestly, I think the only people who won here (but not necessarily happy about it) is that nearby Starbucks. But even then, they would’ve had a crazy long line too from not only their regular customers, but also people who just wanted to get out of the sun, people wanting to use the bathroom, etc.

They would’ve probably run out of a few items too if there were so many people buying drinks and water and food… Yknow what, nvm. The only people who win here are those that got the bag and ran.

The pause between Big Nick and "music" kills me any time I watch this video.

Tana-Con to me just came across as a petty revenge attempt that blew up in her face.

The people that got sunburnt and blaming tana have issues. I would never BE PALE and stand in California heat for 3 hours AND BE GENUINELY SHOCKED THAT I GOT BURNT AND THEN BLAME SOMEONE ELSE 😭😭

It’s so crazy. She was so young. Someone should have been accountable and qualified to hold this type of event. I don’t really blame her as much as a blame the conpany that she hired to organize it.

It's a miracle no one was severely injured that day...or worse. I live in Houston, not far from where the astroworld concert tragedy happened...several people were crushed to death rushing the stage...in a literal matter of minutes

I remember when the whole astroworld thing happened I was thinking about how fucking lucky tana was that kids didn’t die/get seriously injured. i can’t believe she managed to get people to (mostly) forget about this

You know, there are arguments about which is the worst con - Los Pegasus Unicon, Dashcon, Rainfurrest 2015 - I still think Tanacon might be the worst.
I mean, people went to these other three and were able to get into the convention at least. Some even bought merch, met up with friends and had a decent time, whatever else went wrong. There were vendors and panels and food and artist allies.
Tanacon sounded like hours wait in the sun, getting heat stroke, and when you got inside, there was fucking nothing in there. It honestly sounds like it basically didn't happen, but left many people sunburnt and out of pocket. Personally, if I had to attend one of these disastercons, I'd take any one of them over Tanacon.

As far as it being irresponsible for kicking out the people who trespassed and were causing crush hazards… that’s on the parents… why would you drop your child off at a co vent ion unattended?? to be completely honest, i feel like a failed convention is extremely on brand for tana and she used it as an opportunity to be like “oh welp, i’m a mess, i’m a fuck up”. her apologies have always been so disingenuous and she’s very privileged. i’m seriously wondering if tanacon was just another storytime opportunity.

tana con looking at it now is giving the less deadly but still very chaotic version of Travis Scott and astroworld

Tanacon makes Dashcon look like a success. At least Dashcon had the infamous ball pit.

First priority of a Fire Marshall is to enforce the fire code - not to worry about “children” who were dropped off by their irresponsible parents. Seriously - you don’t just drop your child off without a plan - regardless of what the event is.

Re: Tana making a commitment to refund for the event is a verbal contract. She was never sued?

What you talked about in your opening is exactly what I’m doing right now, I’m having a mild obsession with tana con and a few other internet event failures😅
Also, I don’t think any video I’ve watched on the event ever talked about how vidcon did her dirty like that, all of them always implied she got banned and hubris lead her to do her own event. I didn’t realize she’d been promised to be a featured creator and then was basically left to fend for herself in the crowds. I can see why she wouldn’t want to go back after they did that to her not only once, but three times.
