His cousin Katherine Johnson is NASA's Hidden Pioneer. In 1953, Johnson began working in the all-black West Area Computing section at the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics’ (NACA’s) Langley laboratory. She was an American mathematician whose calculations of orbital mechanics as a NASA employee were critical to the success of the first and subsequent U.S. crewed spaceflights. He has a collaboration with NASA to get the word out about the internship opportunities for young students.
