La cancion mas hermosa que he escuchado en mi vida gracias neil!!
ОтветитьI am 56 and (still?) listening to techno and progressive house. And then there is Neil Diamond. In a time when the world has gone belly up and everything seems wrong, his music touches upon the bare essence of humanity. Pure and simple in all its beauty. This is what makes me believe we can still make it and thrive. Never lose the faith, always keep the glory.
ОтветитьAm listening to this song at the moment...my day is not complete without it....luv you, Neil....you are the Best...
ОтветитьI cried for the old man. How did you write this? Are your songs for your children?
Mickie michele in California still 3 chord crazy
Morningside
The old man died
And no one cried
They simply turned away
And when he died
He left a table made of nails and pride
And with his hands he carved these words inside
"For my children"
Morning light
Morning bright
I spent the night
With dreams that make you weep
Morning time
Wash away the sadness from these eyes of mine
For I recall the words the old man signed
"For my children"
And the legs were shaped with his hands
And the top made of oaken wood
And the children sat around this great table
Touched with their laughter
Ah, and that was good
Morningside
An old man died
And no one cried
He surely died alone
And truth is sad
For not a child would claim the gift he had
The words he carved became his epitath
"For my children"

God gifted voice which still mindblowing.
ОтветитьNeil Diamond told UK DJ Ken Evans in 1972: "Morningside is a very sad song. It's a song of dying alone, something that I've been aware of for a long time. I was struck by it when my grandparents passed away - that they did die alone - that they weren't with their children when they died. And a year and a half ago when I was in London for the first time, I passed a shop and saw this beautiful table in the window. It was carved by hand and for some reason the two things came together and the song started then." >>
Ответитьalways no one Neil, love you brother ,

ОтветитьMuch more than a carved table. You have left a legacy of love.

ОтветитьMy husband of 42 years died last July. His kids did exactly this. He was such a wonderful woodworker and built so much of my furniture, boxes for my lost kitties and doggies. They wanted nothing of his except to keep it from me. Refused to even return his wedding ring to me. I just can't get past it, as i listen and cry.
ОтветитьSeptember is very memories of mind
ОтветитьFor my beloved brother.......thanks Neil!

ОтветитьBarely a teen when I listened with headphones on my sister’s LP, this song was just a blip, not a hit. I cried like a baby.
ОтветитьThe string arrangement is, in a word, perfect. Lee Holdridge.
ОтветитьThanks for showing me this song Lorin Casper.
Toil Is Meaningless
17 So I hated life, because the work that is done under the sun was grievous to me. All of it is meaningless, a chasing after the wind. 18 I hated all the things I had toiled for under the sun, because I must leave them to the one who comes after me. 19 And who knows whether that person will be wise or foolish? Yet they will have control over all the fruit of my toil into which I have poured my effort and skill under the sun. This too is meaningless. 20 So my heart began to despair over all my toilsome labor under the sun. 21 For a person may labor with wisdom, knowledge and skill, and then they must leave all they own to another who has not toiled for it. This too is meaningless and a great misfortune. 22 What do people get for all the toil and anxious striving with which they labor under the sun? 23 All their days their work is grief and pain; even at night their minds do not rest. This too is meaningless.
24 A person can do nothing better than to eat and drink and find satisfaction in their own toil. This too, I see, is from the hand of God, 25 for without him, who can eat or find enjoyment? 26 To the person who pleases him, God gives wisdom, knowledge and happiness, but to the sinner he gives the task of gathering and storing up wealth to hand it over to the one who pleases God. This too is meaningless, a chasing after the wind.
Sitting next to a Crackling fire, mullet and all, sweaty tank top and mustard stain with cowboy boots up on a table saw listening to a gem.

ОтветитьBelíssima canção
ОтветитьNeil. We are old men who will die but we know the the legacy we leave behind are the memories of how we love our children/
ОтветитьI had an Uncle Jack who died at 48 in the early 80s.
He was a craftsman!
He had built a table NONE of his 5 kids wanted.
My Dad ended up with it. When he passed away in 2012, it came to me. I still have it! I'll never sell it! Every time I hear this song, I remember my uncle; one of the FEW in my family who was nice to me. So are his boys, but his girls have always hated me for no reason!🤷
None of them ever ask about the table.
