i absolutely need a game that lets me build that english city layout drawing.

Way too square and linear to be historically authentic. It looks like a city planner from the US in the 19th century made the plans for it. I would take inspiraton from Witcher 3 or KCD 1 and 2 to get a feel for the layout of towns or take a look at some old european towns.

I wonder if eventually we’ll be able to pop into first person mode and participate in the battles 🤔

This is beautiful! I really like the strip farming and how it looks. Though as someone from there I cant wholeheartedly vouch for the historical accuracy. In Poland every medieval city up to 1791 would be constructed and given city rights according to the “Prawo magdeburskie” (or „prawo lubeckie” - only cities near the Baltic sea) which gave them a quite specific look.

So the main square is great since its the main characteristic of this type of towns though regrettably it’s not possible to make it fully accurate as it would always have a town hall and market buildings on the plaza. The main church would be adjacent exactly as you placed it. Then the streets would be mostly orthogonal coming off from the centre but the Burgage plots would be placed in rectangular quarters instead of straight lines. Most importantly the overall shape of the city was usually irregular and sort of pea or oval shaped as there wasn’t any strict shape they had in mind. (And a village would be even more chaotic) Super geometric symmetrical plans emerged in the renaissance period. So it was definitely far beyond his time as you said, though not that far off and your Trust me bro sources had some truth to them lol though I’d recommend looking at historical plans that are locationally accurate but in all honesty I’m just sick and bored and felt the need to share this information

If you’re interested there’s a typical town plan on the “Prawo magdeburskie” Wikipedia but also for a small medieval city Żagań comes to my mind (but you might have a problem finding the XIII cen plans so-) I also recommend Złotoryja (fun fact it’s the first Polish city to be given rights under the Magdeburg rights)
Though an accurate representation won’t be really possible anyway until we get the town hall, city walls, towers, gates and monasteries as they were essential in every bigger medieval community and it would look amazing in the game if we got those. Oh, and some cobbled roads would definitely be awesome. As for now it’s definitely more of a medieval village simulator than city
