I have been considering a CI for a little bit now.
I’m 31, became deaf at 15, before that I was fully hearing.
I’m now DeafBlind in that my hearing is basically at the bottom of an audiogram for both ears with my right eye being completely blind and my left slowly getting worse.
I’m not sure on which brand/type of processor would be best as I’m quite new to the research part.
Do you have a recommendation for the DMV area? (DC, Maryland, Virginia)
I’m located between DC and MD
over my head, your other one much better DrCliffAuD VLOG 112
ОтветитьWhat area does the wire that connects the receiver and electrode array pass through?
ОтветитьI’m getting the surgery for it on my right on May 9th from having hearing aids my whole life! So excited for this ❤
ОтветитьDoes anyone recommend this if you have 25% hearing in one ear and 90% in the other?
Ответитьcan you make a video on the best cochlear implant in the market?
ОтветитьHow do they reseal the round window since the cochlear is supposed to be a fluid filled sealed organ.
ОтветитьWhat does the implant do in controlling tinnitus?
Ответитьokay but does it connect to my phone and let me listen to music in class?
ОтветитьNothing better than a cockinyaear to make you hear better.
ОтветитьAge limit for cochlear implant?
ОтветитьI had sudden hearing loss 6 years ago in my right ear with the the icing on the cake of 24/7 raging tinnitus. Fast forward through 3 years of misery I was implanted and the moment the audiologist placed the outer processor on I could not hear the tinnitus at all (as long as I'm wearing the processor which is almost all time minus showering/swimming). My hearing was instantly better as I no longer "battled" the wall of noise from my dead ear. It took me a while through "rehabbing" but I can safely say that I agree w/Dr. Cliff here, and that is to say that my CI is indeed a "miracle".
ОтветитьWhat activities can't you participate in with these?
ОтветитьWill you do a video on AB marvel
ОтветитьI'd be scared having this incase the implant broke my Choclear as it feeds into it during the operation.
ОтветитьIm going get my CI evaluation on June 5th to see if Im candiate. I can hear my left hearing aid clear but my right ear has been blocking sound and static all the time. I feel Im only hearing from my left ear not my right ear. My audiologist wants me get CI evaluation to see what happen. Just nervous and I have a feeling I wont be a candiate because I still have benefit with my hearing aids. This will help me to see what will happen in my future when I have no benefit with my hearing aids.
ОтветитьHi Dr Cliff, I like your videos.
In this case I think it is very important to qualify that while many people perform well with cochlear implants, there is a range of performance with these devices, as is the case with hearing aids and there are individuals who perform a lot better with them but may not reach the performance levels you're describing in this video. Also, going from 0 to 80% speech recognition is not a miracle in itself, but requires consistent usage and for many people a lot of training. I wouldn't call them miraculous, but they are life-changing for many people. As you know, expectations management is important for client success with any hearing device and I worry that for some you're setting the expectations bar a little high.
If there is deafness in one ear (but can hear partially) and also has tinnitus in it, would it be correct for this? Is this implant permanent or is it replaced after few year? 👍

Would you have a person you would recommend in the state of Hawaii?
ОтветитьHad Ci in last 12 mos… thisis the best description i have seen. Terrific. And i am in TX so not the audiologist’s client.
ОтветитьEmblem paid for 1 at 100% for Hubby’s last year. It’s a huge difference when deaf.
ОтветитьI wonder what the sound from the CI sounds like. Is it natural or robotic? ✌🌱
ОтветитьExcellent! Can you do an updated video on BAHA surgery and device? I got my BAHA last year and it is a game changer!
ОтветитьWhat is the chief cause of deafness? Cochlea doesn't work?
ОтветитьDr. Cliff, thank you for your in network of best practices audiologists. I checked your Hearing Up website and found Dr. Oliver in San Diego CA. I have an appointment with Dr. Christina Oliver for audiogram test on June 20th. I look forward to seeing her.
ОтветитьIf you see this I NEED HELP!!! one of my ears are closed and I tried everything you said and it did not PLEASE JUST HELP ME IT HURTS SOOO MUCH WHYYYYYYYYY
ОтветитьI was implanted 10 months ago. Tested at 99 % accuracy for sentences in noise
ОтветитьIt appears that a lot has changed over the years. I only know one person with cochlear implants and it was a life changing procedure for her.
ОтветитьWould a CI be helpful if the hearing loss is caused by damage to the auditory nerve itself?
ОтветитьIf there is deafness in one ear (but can hear partially) and also has tinnitus in it, would it be correct for this? Is this implant permanent or is it replaced after few year? 👍
ОтветитьI feel like off ear implants may be more popular because they can be a bit more discreet vs say something like a traditional cochlear implant because it doesn't have a giant external piece of equipment that sits on your ear maybe in a few years there could be a more discreet implant similar to a microchip
ОтветитьAh I see you went back to your original intro interesting 🤔
ОтветитьExcellent description.! Ad a CI recipient I would say that they are amazing devices. The only thing I would add to this is to make sure that if considering a CI please be prepared to retrqin yourself to understand sound. That is something that takes alot of patience and using the device despite how everything sounds at first. Also as you have mentioned it's definitely a partnership between the audiologist and the patient and open and honest communication will make a great deal of difference!
ОтветитьThe fully internal cochlea implant is coming soon. Three major hearing providers are in clinical trials on humans. Can take between 3-7 years but one started October 2018. The rest summer 2020. Fingers crossed.
ОтветитьChoice not for everyone but interesting to learn about.
ОтветитьShould list the risks. Not just the benefits. Years ago, I read that installing it will ruin what's left of your natural cochlear hearing.
ОтветитьI received my mine 5 years ago. It’s been life changing.
