You can also use this little board to connect to an Arduino Nano and install the radio sketch on it and you don't even need the Quansheng UV-K5! Link to the Ver. 2.5 Modification Module doesn't work though.

But I want the FM radio.

Ok, I watched the rest of the video and I see that this mod fulfills all my radio desires. Now I want one. But I also want the flashlight feature. Maybe I can put the LED light on another part of the radio.

Am I imagining this? At 35 min mark the RX was flickering with your voice timbre when your thumb was on the base of the dual band antenna.

Why is it beneficial for anyone to be able to receive on a band but not transmit?

Please note that there is no clearance between the SI4732-A10 chip and the back of the speaker. I completed the modification without using double-sided sticky tape, simply pressing the case back into place (perhaps with a bit more force than normal). After turning it on, I realized I was only receiving white noise. Upon opening it again, I found that the chip was cracked in the middle, with a visible impression on the isolation sticker on the back of the speaker. Luckily, I had a spare PCB for another mod, so I replaced the damaged SI4732-A10 chip and removed the speaker. It's possible the chip already had a micro crack and was damaged before. My advice is not to force anything if you feel resistance.

Hello Paul, Impressed by this video and like your soldering skills. As i repair laptops and sometimes need to repair the places where the hinges break out of the plastic i often use my soldering iron at about 250 degrees celcius to work the plastic. You can remove or add material and shape it the way you want. 73, Gerard, The Netherlands.

I just finished this mod yesterday - it was an adventure! I accidentally pulled off the teeny-tiny resistor that the small tab jumper attached to - i think this was the +v input to the board. I was trying to put it back in place and it popped off screen on my microscope. I was about to give up, but spotted it elsewhere on the board. I THINK that I got it back in place, did all the other stuff, and it turned on fine. It would hang at the "WAIT" prompt when I tried to switch to the HF mode. I checked that same +v tab and it was shorted to ground. I fixed that by cutting a solder bridge, and after this, it worked!

I have two questions - what (if any) problems might happen if that resistor wasn't replaced correctly? I am getting power to the board, so at least half of it is in place.

Also, it was mentioned that a full reset should be done through the menu after the firmware is updated, but I can't find this option in the menus. Am I missing something?

Great video, I would really like to see a similar hack to a TYT TH 9800. As you know, it is a quad band radio (10M, 6M, 2M & 70cm), but it does not have sideband capabilities.
