Project Zomboid Electricity/Water SHUT OFF Guide | Build 41

1) at day 1 get weapon, find a base/home
2) at day 2-3 go to food stores and place perishable food to freezer
3) before electricity shut off
- move more freezers to your base
- move freezed food (meet is priority) to your new freezers
- find generator (best locations to search are garages near 2store houses)
- find generator manual (best way is to check book shelves at houses)
- get car, canisters, gas
- install and fuel generator
4) after electricity shut off you may live more relaxed:
- read construction book
- level up construction to 4
- build water container above water sink

Important note: electricity doesn't actually get cut off ever until the last TV channels go dark.

This is to ensure that players always get the skill programmes and bits of TV news lore.

Once you get good at this and like plumbing you can take the Fear of Blood trait and keep washed up and high thist just carry 2 bottles(+6 pts each I think)

I’m on my first play through and I didn’t expect power to shut off idk why and I had a lot of food in a fridge, I had to move into the country side and ditch the town for now

You didn't mention that if you have enough Electrical skill you can use battery-powered lamps (the ones you can place on a nightstand) so you don't have to rely on a generator for lighting.

Need batteries and the bike to pedal energy into it.

Just lost a character today, both water and electricity shut down at the same time, while I was really far in downtown West Point looking for a vehicle. I fought an horde, got bitten, managed to come back to my base with a truck that was located only 200m from where I got bitten. I tried saving my character by chopping off his arm but it was near the shoulder, he died within seconds of a major blood loss while he was suturing his arm. Rip Andy Numbers, you were a good character that went through some intense shit up until the end!

this is the first info ive seen that showed water and electricity shut off at different times! im on day 4 so i thought one of my mods broke the sinks etc since my lights were still on. unlucky as usual i guess lmao

Boiling rain water doesnt make sense cause it is cleaned already. I dont know what their intention was.

Sometimes I forget that there are only 3 wells in the base game, it’s good for single player but good luck in multiplayer since most people or groups claim those sites right off rip

Once NPCs get added, starvation and hunger is going to be far worse problem

They need to add a feature to fill bathtubs up with water to use as water storage too. Straight from the Zombie Survival Guide no less.

so odd there no oil/battery lanterns or candles that you can use for indoor lighting.

ayo survivor tip here: id recommend you to try no water or energy from the start for a few runs till you get used to it, i did it this way and you get used for good pretty quick

Can a building use two or more generators? Will they share the load or will they be used one by one?

I've never felt that stockpiling water is necessary. Even after water shuts off, there's enough sinks / toilets / showers in a single residential block to keep you going for days, maybe weeks. An office water cooler is common and has enough water for weeks. I see players stockpile water somewhat often, but I never have and have never had issues

Tip on plumbing: the sink inside has to be “inside”; the room needs to be considered indoors, and if it is player built and not on ground level, it might be a little finicky with stairs. I had to build a couple walls next to my stairs to get it to work.

With how common water dispensers are , its pretty easy to just find a few to hold you off until you plumb some sinks.

I’ve lost so many characters looking for that goddamned How To Use Generators magazine. Maybe I should just look for antique ovens instead.

To clarify, the timing of shut offs and amount of gas in pumps stated are default values, they can be changed in sandbox settings when starting a new game.
Some houses have fireplaces that work the same as antique stoves except they aren't portable.

a good base i found is on the outskirts of loui. theres a long street with houses next to the river with built in fireplaces and fences. I'd recommend

The sink strat is outdadted..... they "fixed" the glitch (basically code for water taint based itself from WHICH RESEVOIR you took water from (and since sinks and other installed plumbed water sources were originally coded for pure water only....), not anymore) and so now water from a tainted source (river/lake, rain collector) WILL remain tainted and so require boiling after water shuts off

I like to start in december with water and electricity already off, makes things more challenging

When power goes out gas pumps go off too, so you'll need to power the pumps with a generator to get gas, also don't forget to check wrecks as they hold fuel too.

This is mind-blowing and a gamechanger for me, that you can place rain collector above the sink and get clean and easily accessible water. Holy shit

I really think the water in sinks after the power goes out should just be removed.
It makes water a non issue, its simply too easy to find and never once have I had an issue with getting water after it goes out.

Even though I've never once died of starvation or dehydration, I still get irrationally nervous once the utilities start shutting off.
