This was one of the dumbest moves I've ever seen. Picture the behavioral sink meets game of thrones and cyberpunk 2077, with absolutely horrible acting (even on the part of Malcom, who I really like as an actor). There are so many other movies that better depict an apocalyptic scenario. If you're looking for a movie that will leave you shaking your head, this is the one for you.

What's curious is we're explicitly shown a bird picking at the corpse just beyond the border. Even if animals can't transmit the disease themselves, they could definitely carry infected blood and flesh on themselves across the border which would end up infecting others.
