if not for those highlights this was the one...
why I thought this was the one is because that large dynamic range - one would expect nice highlights...
I want 4k, best dynamic range, something that can be brought with me when hiking for a week. I have strong legs, some extra weight can be considered, why nothing fit the billllll????
Kinda like making a video about “ 4 reasons why I divorced my wife “…. To be honest… is it really worth a video. 4 reasons why I shagged my neighbour….. 4 reasons why I painted my house grey….. I can give you more senseless video topics to make videos about
ОтветитьHaven't seen any image from this camera that you have coloured properly.
ОтветитьI read in comments somewhere on the internet that the S5ii has the same sensor as the FP... I was just about to pull trigger on the FP because of your video. For me image first over ease of use.... is the S5ii the way to go? Cheers :)))
Ответитьusing the camera intended only for video and then mentioning you used it in a way it wasn't intended for... buy an XPro2.
ОтветитьInteresting video. Drop the background music. Thanks. toronto canada
ОтветитьFor me, as a classical filmmaker, Sigma FP is the Micro Alexa.
ОтветитьI shoot tons of timelapse videos with fp. Never encountered any banding artifacts.
ОтветитьI dunno why anyone would choose the FP + EVF over the S5ii at this point.
ОтветитьPhew glad I saw this. I was about to buy the fp.
Ответить😢
ОтветитьGreat review. I really want to like the FP but the banding and highlight issues are just unacceptable to me, especially as someone who shoots alot indoors and at night with artificial lighting. I would live to rig this camera out with the LVF11 and hand grip and stuff as it feels almost like a super8 or hassy or something with those attachments but it's not gonna be worth the money if a lot of the shots are coming out like that.
Maybe a sigma fp L 2 is on the horizon in 2024 where perhaps they fix the readout speed and improve how the sensor handles highlights. If they can correct those issues to the point where banding, exposure latitude, and rolling shutter are for the most part no longer an issue, then I would definitely buy this camera. As it stands now though I'd rather look more into GFX despite it being much larger, these issues are non existent. There are also a lot more high megapixel full frame cameras hitting the market with mechanical shutters.
Great job man, I'm very happy to hear about your experience with this camera, but could you answer one question? Does it use the same lenses as the Sony FX30 and FX3?? Could you tell me more about which lenses she uses?
ОтветитьYou have made some good observations about the Sigma however I think comparing it to the A7S III which is double the price of the Sigma is not a good comparison. It would be better to compare it to something similar in price.
ОтветитьOn the same page as you with my FP that i returned to B&H a couple years ago? That and the lack of any sort of decent ibis was the dealbreaker. However, I did manage to take some of my most favorite, visually stunning photos I've ever taken, when banding wasn't an issue. IMO this camera rivals the Leica Q's in image quality and depth
ОтветитьI’ve been shooting for over 50 years. I have 10 cameras and 25 lenses. I have my grandmother’s cameras, and she was born in 1898. I have my mother’s cameras. In addition to my current kit, I bought a Minolta SRT 101 in 1972 with a Rokkor lens, an SX-70 in 1974, an F3HP in 1984 and a bunch of other cameras in between and since. I was walking the streets of Manhattan and buying cameras in NYC before B&H was in existence.I bought a Leica S007 from Samy’s in 2016. I still have my original Minilux from 1998. I currently have a 7ii and an H2F. And I have an fp which is quite good for stills. I am shooting it with Leica and Voigtlander glass. It is clearly not my only camera as I know its limitations, but it is easily capable of outperforming my SL2-S. Do I own or wish to have a Sony? Nope. The moral is: you have to have a lot of cameras and lenses to get the shot.
ОтветитьDoes any of the recent sigma firmware updates that improves exposure issues in photography could have fixed some of your issues
Ответитьno AF, no stabilisation, no usable formats except RAW - useless for run and gun
ОтветитьDoes that issue with banding and flickering happen when shooting video too? and Has it got any issues with moire? Do you need to add IR-cut filtration when using NDs? Cheers
Ответитьkkkkkkkk you are a joker! well done to those who follow you.
ОтветитьExcellent analysis. And you sure didn’t BASH the camera like some people are claiming here.
I bought the fp when it first came out, but it’s been sitting in the closet ever since, because other hobbies got in the way. And I’m lazy.
I bought it because I know NOTHING about cine, but wanted 12 CDNG to learn Resolve. So, at its price point, and what it’s capable of, it IS a fantastic entry level camera…capable of advanced stuff as well.
Visiting my old home town of NYC next month after two decades away, and I plan to put her through the paces using just a Helios 44-2, shooting 12 CDNG, and leaving all my other lenses at home.
I have a decent amount of good M42 glass, and I expect it will be a lot of fun shooting them on the fp.
I bought this camera knowing most of the drawbacks you mention✅ for £1350 in pristine condition. I intend to use it only as a travel companion for landscape using my L mount lenses as the SL2-S is too big to hump around Japan on trains etc. Waiting for the Laowa auto focus 10mm to hit the shops next week and then hopefully I fill the landscape gap left by my Q3 (which comes as well for street and EDC). The sigma will do focus bracketing and ISO6 ND shots so a nice small package for most landscape and architecture needs. Not getting the EVF it’s a waste of time going for the LCD viewer (collapsible) another space saver. I’m not sure how you ever thought this could be a street camera, electronic shutter just does not work for that genre regardless of any other issue. You are a great video guy. Congrats! Ken
ОтветитьI just realized how many Sony haters in the comments, it's funny
ОтветитьI'm still annoyed by this video. I love your work, and you could have continued to occasionally give people tips on using this beatiful little camera as an entry level cinema camera.
ОтветитьWhat a silly upload. Back to creativity school perhaps?
Ответитьi think xiaomi 14 ultra better cinema camera for noobies, kek
ОтветитьHe earned a lot making video on fp and after making every possible content on fp. He sold it and still got decent amount back so win win situation.
ОтветитьI don't understand why it cannot capture highlights properly with such a massive sensor and dynamic range. Do you know if this was addressed in a firmware update? I never had this problem with the old bmpcc shooting even in 8bit. I was excited about this camera, the form factor is tremendous!
ОтветитьI’ve been shooting the fp hard for a while now… just concluded a two week, 5 state, passion project and the banding/flickering is real, but I still love it. Shooting night city shots there is a flickering on certain types of lights but it is a still a gem.
I’ve sorta leaned into the defect, and most of my non photographer pals don’t even notice or when I point it out to them they think it’s just the nature of that light and don’t see it as a defect.
Right now, I'm wondering whether to get the SIGMAfp or the Sony a7CII, a compact full-frame mirrorless camera, as my entry-level cinema camera. The SIGMAfp's RAW has a unique color depth and is cheap. The Sony a7CII is also quite compact, and if you add a viewfinder for the SIGMAfp, it costs the same as the Sony a7CII with a telephoto lens. The Sony has a Sony feel to it, but it can produce unique RAW. I'm poor, so I can't buy both. I'm in trouble.
ОтветитьWhy did the “Paula Dean Banding slide change” sound effect sound like the beginning of My Milkshake brings all the boys to the yard?
Ответитьi think you are woried of the addons because it becomes bigger but if realy need something to do more
most you need give it adons good lens ,weight staffs and then see what it which did not do
FP does it better when the addons are added it gives it more potentials.
The lack of a mechanical shutter should have told you this camera was never intended for stills.
ОтветитьThanks for this timely video. Being an old as dirt stills photographer, I sold my Leica M kit and moved to a Leica CL along with a number of L-Mount lenses, mostly for the auto focus. But I was considering going back to full-frame from APS-C and was about to get an FP or FP-L until I saw your video. Think I'll stay with my CL for now.
ОтветитьSo now your everyday ride is a panzer tank..
ОтветитьPeople write me in the comments that I have good sigma fp stuff (videos). Did you get the same final result as I have? Maybe you can change your opinion about sigma fp?
ОтветитьJust get the Lumix s5iiX
ОтветитьGood points
ОтветитьWhy on earth would you get this for stills..
Ответитьwhats 2024's version of Sigma fp , any new gem thats as cheap and special? asking in reagadrs of cinamatic
ОтветитьDude bought video camera for photography and complaining about bad photo results 😅
Ответить1700 for an entry level camera?
Then the fp L came. 3000? 😂
You have helped me a lot Justin in terms of Sigma, thank you for that...❤
ОтветитьI dont get the hate on this video. Its a balanced review.
ОтветитьLove my fp… but there are a few point I can agree with. You absolutely CAN NOT over expose this camera. Once highlights go, they’re gone forever. No way around this…
The flicker issue is very real. To get around this, shoot at 1/60 shutter and no flicker.
The screen is perfectly usable on almost all lighting conditions for me, so the EVF is not necessary, although I want one anyway.
Agreed this is in no way a flash camera.
This is an inconspicuously tiny 12bit CDNG cinema camera that also happens to be a brilliant street photography and landscape photography camera. There’s nothing else like it! Though flawed it’s absolutely brilliant.
Thanks for the honest review!
Thanks for the heads up.
ОтветитьTo think I thought about selling my S5 II X to buy this crap... 😅
