IBM and the Holocaust, by Edwin Black. The book was published simultaneously worldwide after decades of international research. The IBM Corporation, through its German subsidiary, Dehomag, throughout WWII, serviced its IBM (known in German as Hollerith) punch card technology machines, provided the absolutely essential custom card stock for the machines, training, and the machines, in the Netherlands, Germany and Poland. It ran the Holocaust, by identifying Jews through census data, running the trains and the camps, and documenting the manner of death of the victims, all the while collecting profits that one day, soon after the war, would be released to IBM in America, run by Thomas J. Watson, who coordinated the support of the Nazi machines through Switzerland, while at the same time, manufacturing war supplies for the Allies. All of the major death camps had a "Hollerith Bunker," a protected enclave for the IBM machines. Black documented every paragraph in his book, which is why he has never been sued by IBM, even when giving presentations of his findings in IBM community centers at their headquarters. That's what I would like to see next!

The top U.S. administrator of post-war W. Germany was John McCloy, who'd been a lawyer for I.G. Farben in the U.S. up to 1942: during the war, he stopped the Army Air Corps from bombing Auschwitz and the railways into it (the Auschwitz complex contained a major I.G. Farben synthetic-rubber facility). McCloy also saw to it that convicted mass-murderers escaped the gallows and got early release from 'life' in jail.

In your haste, you were rather superficial, are you trying to be kind to these companies or what? Their and others' cooperation with the German Nazis was far more earnest. Maybe some books would be useful to develop a fuller story? Thanks though for this epesode.

Ford was an active supporter of Hitler, he was given a high Nazi Decoration, and all Data processing in Concentration Camps were IBM machines. The machines displayed the IBM logo. ( an American Company )

Hugo Boss was a Nazi and did have slave laborers, but he did not design the German uniforms! His company was one of the many that made uniforms (remember 18 million Germans did serve in the Wehrmacht )

DID YOU KNOW? It is normal for businesses to cooperate with their country's government. And who were they supposed to work with, the Martians? In every country, companies compete for government contracts. It makes no sense to sensationalize it. What is sensational is the participation of the Allied industry, mainly American and Soviet, with the Nazis, without which Hitler could never have started the war and committed his crimes. For example, without fuel conditioners, German tanks would not move at all. And this one was imported throughout the war.
Ford, GM, IBM, Coca Cola are just the tip of the iceberg, but few people know about it.
Also in our time, "Western" business still does trade with Russia (eg some French, Italian and other companies have not withdrawn from Russia, etc.). Business is business and war is the best opportunity for profit. I need not mention the cooperation of "Western business" with the Chinese communist government, although it strengthens the regime responsible for great crimes and suffering of hundreds of millions. It's easy to talk about the past, but not many have the courage to talk about what is happening now.
