I love old abandoned places with freaky lore and legend.

I went here as a pre-teen in the late 1970's. It was fun but the main lagoon "swimming hole" water body was really gross. It was cold, muddy, and brown colored water. The "lazy river" ride quickly became my favorite because it minimized the time you spent in the gross main swimming hole lagoon.

That’s not why River Country closed. After Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach opened people just stopped going to River Country as it was a much smaller and outdated water park

river country reminds me a lot of the old dreamworld water park which still stands today.

yo I was just next to river country a few days ago, update: its main swimming hole is gone and is now just a empty area with cranes and I think a first floor.

In 2024, DVC opened the Cabins here; no where near where this locations was.

Teh voleyball court got me super sunburnt, but I have really positive memories of River country!

I heard they're opening up new exhibition there. It's called "the City of the Future." It's one exhibit. I've heard the main theme is a future city street corner. There's going to be depiction of a guy leaving a Starbucks after paying $28.78 for a cup of coffee (venti machiato). While he's walking out the door he notices another man stealing his $36,947 ebike. The denizen of the future pulls out his $9,436 IPHONE 93 x and calls the authorities. He then proceeds to describe the man who stole his ebike to the AI police assistant app as "a white or maybe Hispanic male, he was between 5'2" to 5'4". Average height. Brown hair. Wearing no shirt, no shoes, camo pants, and he looked like he had red lipstick scribbled wildly all over his face." The AI law enforcement assistant (named "Leo") thanked him for filing his report with MS Law Enforcement Assistance. He was then sent a text and confirmation number proving that he had told Leo about his stolen bike. His Machiato was now luke warm.

Watching this now in 2025, Reflections is no longer happening. It supposedly is being renamed to "Disney's Lakeshore Lodge" and plans to open in 2027, 9 years after it was announced

I went there, just years after it opened, when I was a kid. It was amazing. I never knew it ended up abandoned. Such a shame.

This just unlocked a deep memory. When I was little (90s) our extended family was visiting us in Orlando, so we took them here because my dad was a builder for Disney parks so we got in discounted. We had been there all day and were getting on one of the slides for the last time. I guess there was some sort of commotion beginning that I was too young and unaware to notice. All of a sudden my dad is getting his hand shaked and people are freaking out. Turns out a little girl had gone down the slide alone before him and never resurfaced. Since the water wasn’t clear no one saw where she was. My dad just happened to go after her and when he hit the water he felt something below him. He pulled the little girl out and they resuscitated her! We called it a day after that.

I think Disney’s a lot of a lot of their magic their theme of being all about the mouse and the kids experience is kind of gone. They have adopted too many things that aren’t their own, and things like river country and 20,000 leaks under the sea stuff like that that was not necessarily something that was a recent Disney movie, but the idea same with frontier land and other places that were themed off of movies that were not current. We’re actually very old, but it made it so cool that it was sourcing imagination from What would be make-believe adventure they have made some good updates over the years and brought in some themes that are movie or franchise related, but I think they have lost their way and they’re in hot water in the movies in franchise destruction right now so I would hope Disney would see there’s an opportunity to bring back

I had such great memories there...

I remember watching a creepy pasta about this park back in the day, and being obsessed with Urbex videos from guys who broke into the place.

It was a good water park. We visited during one of our first Disney holidays. Styled to look a bit rustic and set beside a lake. There were lodges nearby which looked like nice places to stay.

Disney has a bad habit of just neglecting their old property... like no thought of what they can do with it later

2025 now and reflections still isn’t set to open for 2 more years 😭
