ОтветитьMay I ask you which month you went to Mauritius?
ОтветитьGreat videos! We live in Mauritus and also travel with our 3 kids whenever we can (just did a 6 month trip in SE Asia). Thought I'd answer a few of the questions you posed in the video - 1) the stone towers on the beach are old lime kilns, they used to burn coral in them to produce lime. 2) Lack of fresh milk - there are a few small dairy farms on the island but you're right, it's hard to find fresh milk now. In the old days many people would have a cow on their family plot for milk or milk men would come round with churns door to door and you could buy it, but very few have cows now. There isn't a lot of pasture land for large dairy farms (mainly all sugar cane and fruit/veg) and I suppose most families are too busy or don't have space for a cow these days. Too bad! 3) Jelly - I find this weird too (coming from the UK), jelly sweets and sagoo are popular here, much is imported from China. 4) The kids that live by the sea learn to swim from a young age because they spend so much time splashing about, but there are many inland who can't! 5) Fruits are very seasonal - not sure exactly when you were here, but if 3 months ago then it was winter and few fruits are in season. The mangos and other fruits are imported at that time of year. November/December is the best time for fruits - come for the litchi, they are incredible and nothing like the type you find in the UK. 1000 MUR for a water melon is ridiculous - sadly I think you met a disreputable trader who was trying to rip you off. 6) You answered this yourselves - our best fish go to the hotels or abroad and locals are left with inflated prices for fresh fish or cheap frozen imports.
Hope you enjoyed our island and happy travels
😃
