Beauty standards will never change because beauty standards are innate in our genes. Babies will stare 4 times longer at more conventionally attractive faces than unattractive faces, and even mothers will give better looking babies more attention and resources. Furthermore, on online dating apps, the top 50% of men get 95% of the matches, the top 20% of men get 80% of the matches, and the top 10% of men get 60% of the matches. For women, the distribution of matches is much more equal. This indicates that the definition of beauty among women is much broader than the definition of beauty among males. Hence, getting plastic surgeries for women may be redundant, but a very good idea for men. Also, because of the rise of social media and online dating apps, more men are alone than ever before. In 2008, before tinder and other online dating apps, only 8% of men were virgins. In 2018, this had risen to 27% of men. Hence, the number of incels has steadily increased as looks have become more important.


Because your physical appearance dictates how others treat you, it also dictates your mental health. Very good looking people will constantly get positive reinforcement from others, leading to a good mental health, while ugly people will constantly get negative reinforcement from others, leading to a poor mental health. The best thing you can do for your mental health is improve your appearance.

can we just stop lying about why their doing this, these people obviously do NOT like how they look, and thus are taking loans out to get unnecessary surgery or other procedures to fundamentally change how they look. This is clearly a sign of people having lower self esteem, probably from social media and social isolation brought about by covid.

Beauty matters. I understand why most of these people choose the path of plastic surgery to achieve the standard(maybe at least the average level) is because it's the only way they think they'll be accepted or respected. They're probably undesirable or feel the need to be more beautiful or be the most beautiful person. Plastic surgery is something they think will help them be contented. Then okay, but the problem is when these people(who had plastic surgery) shamed unattractive or not so attractive people for being subpar on their standard. Like, the audacity is insane.

EARLY YEARS

Medieval people lost body parts and limbs to syphilis, battle, and everyday accidents. Italian Physician Gaspare Tagliacozzi was taken with the idea that syphilitics, who commonly lost noses to the disease, might overcome the disfigurement through surgery. Tagliacozzi experimented unsuccessfully with moving skin to the face from other parts of his patients’ bodies. Finally he hit on the idea of moving the skin slowly by attaching the arm to the face until the new blood supply was established. Although patients had to endure the indignity of having their arms strapped to their faces for two to three weeks, it worked. Tagliacozzi wrote a book on repairing facial features and he was a hero …for a time. After his death in 1599, the Italian church accused him of practicing magic, but he was acquitted.

It’s surprising that later physicians didn’t heed the advice and work of Tagliacozzi in their zeal to enhance the appearance of their patients. Instead of adapting and perfecting his work, doctors used ivory, tree sap, celluloid, metal, animal skin, cartilage, and paraffin to repair human bodies, all to no avail and sometimes to the detriment and death of their patients. During World War 1, physicians trturned to Tagliacozzi’s methods to repair devastating war wounds. Because of the skin-grafting skills and knowledge that doctors gained during this time, it was a short step from repairing wartime wounds to ridding people of their wrinkles.

Love yourself for who you are there is no need for this type of elective surgery unless it is a birth defect. There might have a lot to do with the Inner Child and a person’s insecurities compounded by traumatic childhood experiences. Don’t pay attention to people’s negative comments on a person’s appearance everyone has insecurities.
