What do you think of using hurricane ties rather than the birds mouth cuts?
Ответитьhow much it cost about in eiros want build it :) nice tutorial go more like this
ОтветитьIt all made easy sense - until this episode. Whew..... The plans are so specific, it's hard to relate to anything but the kit for this thing.
ОтветитьI are there simpson ties that specifically hold a sloped rafter/joist? like a joist hanger but with an angled base to give a pitched roof?
ОтветитьDang: I just use hurricane ties
ОтветитьRuoof ruoof!!
ОтветитьYeah right birds mouth
Ответитьdesearia las medidas de las rafters en centimetro porfabor
ОтветитьI haven't clue what that was all about, I have used that Square, and put a hip roof on a garage using it. Guess I will have to stick with my try and error method lol!!!
ОтветитьA handy tip is to always use the same rafter as your template when making copies. If you don't, errors can accumulate over many copies and the first and last ones can end up quite different from one another. The principle behind this method is useful for doing lots of projects. I used it this weekend when cutting new siding for my house, for instance.
ОтветитьToo complicated to understand what you are saying, is this a carpentry course or rocket science.
ОтветитьI no talk as good as some folk do , but I'z wonderin' why uz anyone woulda pitch a roof down ona door openin . Seems lika youd' get wet opening the door ?
Ответитьsure
ОтветитьHi fellows. I think you need to take some time and take a fast tour on Stodoys
ОтветитьThanx, you saved this Diy. Project of mine. The way you "show n tell" the marking of measurements is very helpful. Im actually enjoying this project again. Simple doesnt always translate to easy!
ОтветитьHow did you determine the height of the walls to match the roof pitch?
ОтветитьI wish I found this before I just dead-eye guessed the right angle until I got it correct, ruining a board in the process.
ОтветитьToo difficult to learn for beginners or even intermediate
ОтветитьRuff rafters 😂😂😂😂😂😂
ОтветитьDoes not explain how to measure any birds mouth. It has precalculated measurements for the birds mouth.
ОтветитьThis guy thinks he a dog.
ОтветитьWould have been more precise (and quicker) to use a hand-saw rather than a circular-saw and hammer and chisel for those cuts (plus you'd get a workout).
ОтветитьClear as mud...geezzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Ответитьwhat was the height of rear wall and front?
ОтветитьBruv, a simple cut so complicated. Bloody heck. I'll stick to my simple logical approach.
ОтветитьThat could not have been anymore complicated if you tried. Flop the rafter on top of the wall, Make a plumb line on the inside, use a framing square for the 3 1/2 x 1 1/2 birds mouth/heel cuts. Never assume your walls are perfect or your rafters are straight. Cut the rafter lengths using a chalk line after installed.
ОтветитьLost me at mark the 4 on the birds mouth or something like that:) Next!
ОтветитьI used the templates for the birds mouth from the pdf plans. Just cut them out and trace the lines. Worked perfectly. Just start with the 4'10" 2x4. The plans show to buy 3 each 10'x2x4 but for a 4x8 shed you only need 5 rafters. Get 4 out of the 2 each 10'x2x4 and the last one out of a 6' or 8' 2x4 to save $. If you have a jig saw use that and forget the circular saw/chisel, etc. Also 2 1/2" screws worked fine for the rafters rather than toe nailing in all the 8d nails.
ОтветитьFor 4/12 pitch, the dimension is 1 11/32. How about for 2/12 pitch?
ОтветитьThank you for this video i was in the same boat looking for guidance and i didnt know that the birdsmouth on the other side was supposed to be on the outside OMG!
Ответитьaaaand this is where it lost me. lol
ОтветитьToo complicated. On my shed I just eyeballed, marked & cut. Once satisfied I used the piece as a jig for the rest of the rafters. Keep in mind, it’s a SHED not a house.
ОтветитьI'm going to need to watch this video about 14 times before I make the first cut.
ОтветитьHe does everything except telling you how to find the rafter LENGTH.
ОтветитьIs there an easier way to do this
ОтветитьGeez im just go buy per made rafter .. so lost watching this
ОтветитьIt's good to see Woodglut have new instructions to save my money and energy to build it.
ОтветитьNote to self: Do not under any circumstances buy an instructional video from this guy..
ОтветитьAs others mentioned, this is way too complicated. All you have to do is set one rafter in place that you will then use as your template for the others. Make a little spacer from a 2x4 cutoff with a piece of siding glued to it (it’s height should match the depth that you want your notches to be) that sits on top of the top plate right next to your rafter where you’re going to cut your little notches. Just trace over the top of the little spacer, it will outline the notches for you at the correct angle. Then just cut them out with a jigsaw or handsaw. Then just place the rafter with the notches onto the plates, mark where you want the front and the back of the rafter and then use a torpedo level to mark a plumbline straight up and down on the front and back of the rafter. Then take it to your chopsaw, set your angle once and make your cuts. Then just use that rafter as a template to mark and cut all the rest of your rafters. Easy.
ОтветитьUseless video
Ответитьthanks for the good video
ОтветитьYou lost me…seems a long winded way to do basic rafter birds mouth.
ОтветитьWho is most affected by diabetes?
ОтветитьI'm building one of their kits at the moment. The instructions are just a mess, missing all kinds of details. I was very careful to mention that I wanted a kit with a door at one end, and they still sent two sets of hardware for front doors. Much of the lumber was poor quality, but it is the instructions that left me with regrets.
ОтветитьTypically, a "lean to" is adjacent to a house and therefore does not give you working access to the back of the shed to attach siding or trim. Your design does not appear to allow for this consideration. What you are building is a "free standing" shed with access to all sides and of limited use to anyone building adjacent to another structure.
Ответить10 years later and this video is still helping people out!!! Thanks man, this makes it easy to understand and follow the steps for a 2x4 rafter build, quickly too!
