Climb aboard for a relaxing trip through the lush countryside of north eastern Switzerland on a train journey which carries us from the shores of Lake Zürich, through the mountainous Toggenburg region, to the sparkling blue waters of the Bodensee, the lake Switzerland shares Germany and Austria.
We begin our journey at Rapperswil, and look around this historic lakeside town before taking the green and cream train into the heart of the beautiful Toggenburg. We pass though mountains and along the valleys of this rural region before pausing to stroll around the charming village of Lichtensteig.
We discover some of the history of this line and its stock, joining a Swiss wedding party in restored coaches hauled by a vintage BT steam locomotive. We also visit the depot at Herisau to see behind-the-scenes maintenance work.
The line continues through spectacular countryside and we take the opportunity to examine the Sitter railway viaduct, Switzerland's highest, from all angles including inside the structure itself.
At St. Gallen we learn about the flourishing centuries-old textile trade and visit the museum with its wonderful collection. Journey's end is at the port of Romanshorn on the shores of the Bodensee, also known as Lake Constance.
