Walter Chronkite was just as bad. Worse even, seeing how so many people trusted him implicitly. Chronkite convinced the American that we had lost the war in Vietnam at the very point of our victory during the Tet Offensive. After that the Vietcong ceased to be a viable guerilla organization and was reduced to little more than a terrorist and political agitation organization thereafter. The Communists were trying to figure out how best to sue for peace, having been soundly defeated. Chronkite took a defeatist tone when he went on air to proclaim that the war was surely over. His lifelong sympathy for Internationalism (Communism under yet another name) probably meant that he did feel defeated as his sympathy was with the Communist cause. Unfortunately, he and most of the rest of the media establishment convinced the American People that we had lost the war just as we had, in fact, won. Thus, they converted a decisive strategic level military victory into a decisive strategic political defeat. Which enabled the Communists to invade South Vietnam with uniformed NVA (North Vietnamese Army) troops. Eventually, the Democrat party refused to honor our commitment to supply the ARVN (Army of the Republic of Vietnam) forces with the ammunition and vital supplies we had promised to provide. Which sealed the final nail into the coffin of the nation of Vietnam. Causing one of the worst mass panic migrations as more than two million Vietnamese people fled their country to avoid being massacred and abused by the invading Communist forces. Chronkites' crowning lifetime achievement was being the vanguard of the Communist propaganda actions to convince the American People that the war was unjust and that it had been lost on the battlefield.
