Now I want to get genetic testing 🤔
ОтветитьOMG, you mentioned Hashimoto's Thyroiditis! That's my autoimmune disease!
ОтветитьI am a man, and I have autoimmune disease. I don't think they sexists, but most of medicine is based on male body tests which means a lot of the medicine is inadequate for women.
ОтветитьI get that titles like this boost engagement, and I understand the joke, but every SciShow video that focuses on biological sex differences already ends up with a comment section full of bigots and trolls.
I don't object to you mentioning biological sex differences in videos, but I wish you'd either clean out the garbage in the comments or at the very least not feed them with inflammatory titles. The thought of having to be exposed to that in the comments discourages me from watching, honestly.
If health care is ignoring woman's health then why is mans average lifespan shorter then women's?
ОтветитьWho's the girl in the thumbnail?
ОтветитьIsn't testosterone immunosuppressant? Either way I always thought it was mostly because of pregnancy related adaptations to the immune system, and the generally higher level of immune response in females.
ОтветитьI wonder how this affects the few XX males with an SRY on one of their X chromosomes.
ОтветитьI read that trans women (who are XY) sometimes develop autoimmune diseases when they start on oestrogen. Maybe there's a hormonal component to the sex discrepancy as well. Unfortunately I can't remember where I read this
ОтветитьNope.
ОтветитьMy family have a bunch autoimmune disorders that are expressed differently among us. We all have primary clubbed fingers, my grandmother had AIED, and my mother has psoriasis and rheumatoid arthritis. I myself, a male, have vitiligo and HSP. There is still much research to be done on why autoimmune disorders are expressed differently among the global population.
Ответитьclick bait title - negative points.
Ответитьpretty woman
ОтветитьI recently started suspecting I have systemic lupus (tons of symptoms + family history), so this is right on time 💀
ОтветитьWomen health is actually well established for years. It’s men’s health which has been largely ignored.
ОтветитьDon't discount diet. Men and women tend to eat different foods.
Ответитьanother reason i'm glad i'm not a womans..
ОтветитьAm I the only one who sees this as kind of the balancing opposite phenomenon of us males tending to have shorter lifespans because we don’t have that extra X chromosome.
Those who missed it, males can have a trend of shorter lifespans because not having two X chromosomes means if something happens to ours for whatever reason making it not function as it should well we don’t have that extra copy to rely on. I just picture evolution sprinkling problems everywhere like “you get some issues and you get some issues and you get some issues 🧂🧂 everyone gets some issues” 😂😂😂
Womens health issues have been ignored? LMFAO. More men die of testicular cancer than breast and cervical cancer combined yet there is zero screening. The waiting time for women for a clinical psychologist id=s 6 months, For men ay best 3 years. The treatments are geared uo towards women too.
ОтветитьSo lupus DOES exist, but you won't get it unless you Xist. Got it.
Ответитьah yeah food!
I used to be lab science technician student, then I check up foods in different products and I check up company's history
as it seem to correalation in that direction, population of religious men who hate women 🙄 happen to create "feminine" product with intentional to sabatage women health literally for just be independence from men! Like Tampon product for most of it history until we public found out that all/major big brands tampon product are create and sold by men, with chemical that cause cancers....... And these men acted like it's luxury product, not neccessary
It's overbearing, a verital verbal assault - does she breathe through her ears?
ОтветитьI have the hlab27 type that is linked to ankylosing spondylitis in more men, but I keep stumping the rheumatologists because I only have eye issues and no spinal problems. For some reason it seems being female is protecting me from the worst of this specific disease.
ОтветитьThank you for this.
Yes part of the problem for women is that our pain (and other symptoms) are just not treated seriously. I'm post menopause now. I love it!!!! Kind of wish I had been diagnosed with endometriosis. At least they would stop fobbing me off with "you'll be fine once you've had a baby / past menopause. "
I get that acknowledging how certain groups have been underserved by the medical community is important... but like if the stats given are accurate 20% of men also deal with autoimmune diseases so i dont get what was the need to point out here that it was a "miracle" that we picked up on the trends... sometimes over acknowledging these things causes more division, and can do more harm than good. Like for example pointing this fact now.. how is this helping? what are we gaining out of it? kinda feels more a cheap political grift than actually improving anything.
ОтветитьI remember another video on autoimmune disorders here and how it was noted that the trend even occurs among trans women, which wouldn’t normally be expected. Which does make me think Estrogen is likely involved too tbh. (Yes, one can be trans without HRT but I believe the study cited did look only at trans women on HRT so yeah. :V)
ОтветитьEarly detection? I’d settle for doctors believing us when we come in with all the symptoms and a family history asking specifically about the disease we have!
ОтветитьGreat explanation, for those who are trying to deviate chromosomes with sexuality are completely wrong. There is only X and Y and no moroe. Pay attention or replay the video.
ОтветитьI am a man and I get hemiplegic migraines, which are FAR more common in women. Is that why I love when my daughters paint my nails?
ОтветитьI have lupus and always thought it was induced by hormones, since triggers are puberty, UV rays, and other stress.
ОтветитьI have Grave's disease just like my father. Thankfully mine went into remission before having to have my thyroid removed.
ОтветитьCan you do a video on Mallen streaks or poliosis?
ОтветитьI tested positive for autoimmune disease, specifically what type not known yet
Ответитьautoimmune disorders run in my family, for us both men & women get them pretty equally since almost everybody has something. though i've noticed that specifically crohn's & ankylosing spondylitis are most common in my male relatives vs lupus, hashimoto's, & sjogren's which only affect my female relatives (as far as i know)
ОтветитьTurns out post-modern social activism hasn't eradicated biological sex.
Ответить♡
ОтветитьI expected this to discuss Polyvagal theory
ОтветитьI have lupus and now i wanna get my genome sequenced
ОтветитьI’m the only female in my family with ITP (body destroying my own platelets)
ОтветитьTry chanting Lawv/ Lay.
ОтветитьSo, unpopular take here, something without conscious decision making cannot, by definition, be sexist. Prove me wrong... And change your goddamn title if you can't
ОтветитьI have a condition called Immunodysregulation polyendocrinopathy enteropathy X-linked (IPEX) syndrome which is the root cause of NUMEROUS auto-immune disorders because of the mutation of the FOXP3 gene that messes with the production and normal function of regulatory T-cells. And regulatory T-cells work to tone-down an immune response, preventing auto-immune attacks.
The FOXP3 gene is present on the X-chromosome, like the other auto-immune conditions. The big difference with IPEX however, is it, affects men a LOT more than women. This is because, to my understanding, the mutated FOXP3 gene is a recessive trait that requires the mutation be present on BOTH X-chromosomes, otherwise the dominant, non-mutated copy prevents it from being expressed. However, since men have only 1 X-chromosome, they don't have that copy of the correct gene to silence the mutated copy.
The other auto-immune disorders are, again to my understanding, connected to dominant genes and thus only need 1 copy to be expressed. Am I getting that right?
Xist. Are you sure it does?
ОтветитьGabor Maté, a trauma specialist, is citing medical evidence tat autoimmune deseases corelate with trauma, stress and surpressed emotions. It is not so suprising, because it is well know that stress affects the immune system. Western medicine should stop overlook psychosomatic causes of deseases. There is nothing esoteric about it. Evidence-based medicine have many times proven that psychosomatic problems exist. It just hasn't find how to treat them yet, apart from psychotherapy, which is certainly heplful, but is not made to be focused on physical health and it doesn't have explicit tools to treat physical conditions. We need to start to search for methods which can heal both the somatic and psychologic causes of deseases together.
ОтветитьGreg House loves lupus
Ответитьone thing that actually helps is adequate vitamin d especially from sunlight which has other benefits also, & keeping mental health good & it's triggers in check.
ОтветитьYou'll also perhaps note that STIs are often asymptomatic in women, some more than 90% so. Result is that women tend to have more of them.
