Legal/station ID from the new CW affiliate in Miami-Fort Lauderdale, Florida, recorded Monday, September 2, 2024.
On Sunday, all but one (KATC, which will switch later in the month) of Scripps' CW affiliates dropped the network, with Nexstar lining up replacement affiliates in all markets. In Miami, Scripps owned original CW affiliate WSFL, which dropped the network after 18 years to go independent.
In a surprising twist, Paramount picked up CW for two markets where Scripps was foregoing the network. WBFS took the affiliation for Miami, with Detroit being the other, and WKBD returning to the network after a tumultuous year that saw the network go to two stations during that time. Paramount as you'll recall dropped the network last year on all of their stations. The rest of those stations remain independent. Nexstar, probably out of desperation, negotiated with CBS to have them sign Miami and Detroit on to the network as one of the conditions for Nexstar renewing their CBS affiliation deal. I am unsure if there was any financial motivation for CBS to do this (perhaps Nexstar could be paying them, or at least giving them the affiliation at very low rates - this is all just speculation because the terms are confidential).
Steve Stone is the voiceover.
