Thanks Casey, It worked like a Charm. I did it without your video and wired it wrong and the lights wouldn't shut off. I found your video and fixed it minutes!
ОтветитьDoes this fix also work with ring's latest wired floodlight cam models the "wired plus" and "pro" as well?
ОтветитьYou need a different angle so we can see which wires your connecting to other wires.
ОтветитьAny body try this with a google nest? Are they also standard size housing?
ОтветитьThis video was awesome. Planning to do this today, did you not have to replace the ac/dc conversion puck?
ОтветитьI like the bulb idea because of availability and it works with the existing motion detector....and it saves me $249.00
ОтветитьOne thing to consider with this hack is that the switch leg wire coming off the ring motion sensor is very thin (22AWG). That means that the wire is not rated to power 2 120v lights off if it. If you’re going to do this I’d suggest you keep the bulb wattage on the lower end.
ОтветитьCasey I have a couple of questions. First, if you need to buy the replacement led driver from ebay for the existing lights which are fine. Which one would you suggest. I can't seem to find one there or Amazon that can fit and have the 24-36vdc output. Second question is if your original lights are good, I can just remove the driver and rewire per your sketch, because the camera already has a built-in driver as well as each individual ring led light. Lastly, if yes what is the purpose of the hockey puck led driver? Seems somehow to be redundant.
ОтветитьExcellent!! Thank you very much for investigating this and for teaching it. Impressed by your ingenuity 👍
ОтветитьGreat video! One question is that if all we used from the new floodlight was the bulb housing, maybe we can get away with buying an even cheaper outdoor light fixture without the motion sensor?
ОтветитьI did the same thing except I added a 10 Amp relay in the base so it can actually run 250W lamps. I was a little concerned that someone may not use a LED lamp and burn the red wire up.
ОтветитьThank you. $29 and about 45 min later, I now have replaceable lamps in my Ring light!
ОтветитьCasey, thanks for the great video share. My 1st generation flood took a crap a few weeks. I was able to isolate the flood lights and the ballast and plugged them directly into 110 VAC and they worked fine. I figured out the problem with my flood was the step down transformer that lives inside the camera housing was completely dead. There are numbers and a QR code on the transformer but, no information on the innerweb about purchasing a new one. Have you come across this problem yet?
ОтветитьMaybe dumb question - but basically you removed the AC-DV converter ballast. Dont even need it for the replacement bulbs?
ОтветитьAfter two years are they still working ? Mine just died out
ОтветитьTried this and cannot get it the lights to work. Camera works but lights will not. Any help?
ОтветитьDoes the middle white wire connect to both whites of the light?
ОтветитьWorked for thanks! 😊
ОтветитьGreat video
ОтветитьSo I followed your video.. now the camera works and it's asking for a barcode to scan.. any one else experience this?
Ответить2 questions- Can you post a link to the exact bulb floodlight you bought? And what about the siren, does that work as well with your technique?
ОтветитьeBay, don’t have any transformers for the ring floodlight camera
ОтветитьJust replaced mine today with same Patriot light from Menards, works great. Thanks for saving me some money.
ОтветитьAre you able to write up a more detailed guide on the wiring in the details page? This was a really awesome video!. I just got a little lost with which wires to connect to which especially at the end? Also, why do you no longer need the converter?
ОтветитьThe power of kam 220 or 24???
ОтветитьSo what happens ,the oower reducer puck is not needed ??
ОтветитьIs wish he had showed the wires more closely, im lost af
ОтветитьThank you so much, I followed your instruction and fixed two of my ring floodlights.
ОтветитьThanks for this video. What's the circuit thing inside of the Ring Camera that you said that we might be able to purchase from eBay? Thanks!
Ответить3 years!!! Same bulbs!
ОтветитьDoes it need to be another motion-sensing unit, or can you buy any old floodlight unit as long as it has that knuckle?
ОтветитьThe trigger wire is 120v? The red wire looks thinner, how many amp or watts it can handle?
ОтветитьLights only comes on with app, does comes on when motion is detected
ОтветитьWorked great for me, seems to have no issues that I noticed so far. This made my day today because I was bummed about needed to spend like 250 or more for a new one. Thank you for the informative video. I just ended up going yo Lowe’s and picking on a light.
ОтветитьThis just happened to me and there tech support was so freakin nice to offer me a 35% discount! I refuse to purchase another Foodlight after only having this Light/Cam for 1 year and 4 months. Im going to take it down and see if your fix will solve this issue thank you, Ill post an update when its done.
ОтветитьWished you showed the wiring a bit better. I know i will mess up. 😫
ОтветитьI used your video to successfully swap mine out today- thanks so much! I have no electrical background so I found the comments below helpful that stated: connect red camera/sensor wire to red light wire; connect two white light wires to white wire coming from house (I used an extra white wire to pigtail them because wires were so short); connect black cam/sensor wire to black house wire. Thanks for recording this video!
ОтветитьCasey, thank you. It works and simple DIY.
ОтветитьIs the repaired floodlight still rainproof?
ОтветитьWorking great. Only thing I don’t like is the teeth on the new light are a little different from the original ones. But it should not get water directly on it any way. Might silicone it later.
ОтветитьHi Casey. I have a NEW question! One light is out on my Ring. I do not see any black dots on the LED diodes. Would a malfunctioning puck cause just one light to go out? I have printed your diagram, watched the wiring portion of your video multiple times, and made notes from all the comments listed below. So to simplify it for myself and make sure I understand the wiring before I tackle it, would you please review my notes and let me know if this is correct? Also, I always take pictures before I disconnect wires in any wiring project as I am a novice and find them useful to refer to.
Three green wires go together (1 from each light + 1 from house power).
Four white wires go together (1 from each light + 1 from camera + 1 house power).
Two black wires go together (1 from each light [one of these has a red wire crimped on it coming from the camera]).
Two DIFFERENT black wires go together (1 from camera + 1 house HOT power).
Thank you so much for your video and anticipated response (even though it has been three years!) I really look forward to getting this done.
Pay with a credit card that extends your warranty another year.... And they will buy you replacements.
Whats usually wrong with them is water gets in them... They're not suitable for exterior use even under roof. Seal everything up with silicone before you mount it
Hello, there is an LED model that the same company makes. Is that better?
ОтветитьReally want to get a ring floodlight. But they really need to start making these serviceable (like replacement light bulbs) or price them like they are 12 month disposable items.
Issues for me wouldn’t be servicing the unit but the dangerous climb up to the second story to connect and disconnect my unit to service.
Any long-term users? This is quick and simple and awesome.
ОтветитьThanks for the video! I bought an extra light for $5 at a yard sale and used it to fix my Ring Floodlight. Worked PERFECTLY! Thanks for the help! :)
ОтветитьThis how to video is 4 years old..I was skeptical but I held out hope .. I'm not an electrician and I didn't know how to read the schematic, but I followed the written directions and it worked!!!! Thank you so much!!
ОтветитьMy guess is that the fixture could have been designed for the light bulbs to be user replaceable. So, why the heck wasn't that done, or why doesn't Ring offer replacements as depicted in this video? The first answer is money and the need to buy a whole new fixture from Ring. The second answer is to probably protect us from ourselves (& law suits against Ring), because there is some wiring that needs to be done.
ОтветитьAwesome job
