The spider Katie finds is a jumping spider. Theyre harmless to humans and animals and eat venemous and poisonous spiders and insects. Theyre also very social and enjoy spending time with humans. At my Moms house, whenever I see one while I'm visiting, I talk to it for a while and watch it, they'll sit and look at you within arms reach while you talk to them.

This movie was presented as real found footage, with a special thanks to the family at the beginning and no credits at the end. The gradual build up and slow pace lend to that idea. People legitimately thought they'd seen real footage, which is why there was such a huge reaction on release.
